98 GLE vs. 91 Accord Ex Manual

My friend has a 91 Accord Ex, manual, and swears that he can beat me in a 1/4 mile. I believe he has a cone filter, and a ricey-sounding exhaust, sound like bees in a can. I've been in his car, and it doesn't feel any faster than my maxima.

Could i be wrong for thinking I could beat him?

well its basically like a base model teg with similar power/weight output...

low-high 16s

I noticed my Maxima was alot zippier than my friend's Acura Vigor, and those are similar to accords, other then the 5 cylinder engines....but i think i wouldnt have a problem beating him.

and also, someone told my friend that his car puts out about 190 ft/lbs of torque stock, and that he's pushing about 200 to the wheels now that he has an intake and muffler tip, and grounding wires add 5 HP to the wheels, so im beginning to think my friend is either very misinformed, or he has a serious drug problem.

it's so annoying when other claim "ya man, i got 20 horsepower with this new muffler I put on" bulls***. I was talkin to a kid at UConn last week with a 95 V6 Mustang. Variety of bolt on's, had it dyno'd at 150 (wheel) hp, and 220 wheel torque. Then he tells me that it can dip into the 13's in the 1/4. I was like, no, sorry, whoever told you that knows nothing. 180 crank hp on a 3200+ pound car is never, ever, ever, ever gonna hit 13's. Just bothers me, had to vent.

As for the accord, the Maxima will eat it. Unless he's turbo'd, it can't keep up, end of story. Go race him at a 1/4 mile strip so hundreds of people can see it too, just so he can't claim "it was close" or whatever
