Dragging with an auto......give me knowledge

Got a 99 GLE with a few mods. Cattman Y-pipe, Frankencar intake, and the usual suspension mods : shocks/struts, springs, fstb, rear anti sway. SOme cosmetics but that's besides the point.

I'm thinking of trying some 1/4 mile runs at a strip. I've never tried it, and have no idea how to go about it. I guess what I'm asking for are some tips on how I should drive the damn car to achieve the quickest time. I need to be schooled on every little detail like : launch rpm, break stand?, shifting(it's an auto ) whatever else you guys can think of to help me out with my first run. There has to be more than just stomping on the gas pedal. Thanks in advance guys.

damn noob, there is sort of a sticky, every other post in this forum has an answer to your question. Btw, it's an auto, there isn't much you can do except find your best launching technique.

that's what I'm asking for, advice on techniques. Why didn't you just suggest a launching technique instead of acting high and mighty, labeling people.

whoa there...calm it down...

brake torque to 1500, then gun it on the last yellow. Also, get your tire pressure to around 25 psi. Don't heat up your tires if you're running street tires, it just gives your tranny a hard time. The maxima auto tranny does well in shifting at the right rpm, so you wouldnt have to manually shift(undue stress on the tranny)

Also, take all the crap out of your trunk, like spare tire, jacks, etc.If you don't have power seats, see if you can get that off, too. GLE's are the heavist Maximas. I should know, I own one.

Sweet man, thanks for the good advice.

Just wondering, what kind of mods you got on your gle, and what your times are for the 1/4 mile. And when you gun it, don't you experience any wheel spin? or are stock or almost stock max's too weak to create much spin at all?

My Mods:
Frankencar intake
Cattman Y-pipe
Tokico shocks/struts/spring set
C.E. fstb
Progress rear anti sway
Falken 512's 225/45/17
Trenz billet grille
diamon cut corners
Altezza tails (I know most of the org hates it lol)

what i do is brake torque to about 2000rpms and before the light changes green let it go. dont try shifting wont help much just let the tranny do its thing. without a lot of hp theres not much else to do except timing i doubt you will get tire spin maybe a chirp or two thats it.

Thanks guys for the tips...I'll definately take them all into consideration. Since the only track that's near me in a 200 mile radius is closed for the winter, I'll have to wait til spring to find out. More time for me to mod i guess. Maybe I'll go buy a Gtech Pro and try it out. Wonder how accurate those things are...anyone use them?

The GTECH pro isn't very accurate. The new GTECHs are but they run $250.

Let the car launch when you take off your foot of the brake, but once you feel the tires grip then gun it. Its hard to explain how to launch just by reading until you actually do it with someone that knows how to launch. Then that way they probably could explain it a lil better.
