New Auto 3.5 N/A time 13.4@101

Haven't really been trying for any new times lately just racing and trying to win. The only change I made from last weekend was to put the 2 step colder Iridiums back in vs the standard heat range coppers that were there.

The second slip is against an IROC and I backed off as soon as I caught him (eliminations) and still ran a 13.7 with an 87 mph trap speed.

The car has now made 153 passes with no problems with the trans (knock on wood) with the DR Mod and cooler. Shifts are just a crisp as always. I did try torquing off the line to maximum (approx 2700 rpm) but 60's times went up to over 2.0 so I went back to the 1000 rpm starts.

Because I am entered into the Summit ET Series I have a permanent number of 48 which I chose because of my flat track racing days, I had that number for 3 years. Someone asked me if that was my age, my response was, "I wish".

They broadcast the announcer over an FM frequency so you can now hear what he is saying when you are at the line. This guys says "Here is that Maxima again, don't let the car fool you, watch him come off the line, someone has done an awful lot of work on that car" Next week I will put my mods on the info sheet so he can see just how little I have done to it. Also ran against a 2005 Mustang GT who ran a 14.1 who was not happy with the Max.

Its the only import in this series, all others are V8's who have mostly warmed up to having an import sit next to them.

PS Changing my slicks this week to the 24.5's the 22's are pretty much gone after 150 passes.

Nice. That's pretty impressive that after all those passes, the tranny is still holding up. *Not to try and jinx you or anything*

Good going Jime. I just wish you would finally run 11 seconds with the juice to show that us nitrous guys are not slow, because the boosted and NA guys are getting the glory these days.

Some day I may try the streets but we usually only get 3 runs before eliminations and I need them to dial in so not much time to play around.

NmexMax, never been to a dyno I just tune for around a 13.0 on the wideband at the track.

SonicDust187, I am taking it easy these days, approx 20 races I plan on running this year so trying to baby it along, maybe near the end of the season I may try it with the 200 jets.

Yo shift at red line every time, you stay in 3rd gear the whole way? I read on your homeopage about you shifting into the 4th (while still in 3rd at WOT) until after 4.5k rpms because of the small lag (lock-up tq convertor) I had that same problem except mine was on the dyno, and showed a weird spike.

How exactly do you run the 1/4, do you shift directly into 4th after 2nd until 4.5k rpm?

Right now I just leave it in 4th I can make it just across the line before it shifts to 4th so its simpler to just leave it. I found that sometimes when I shifted back to 3rd after the 4500 mark it still locked up, so to get the consistency I need it going to have to stay in 4th. Just glad that Matt (Blu) straightened me out on the cause.

Getting my 24.5" slicks installed today so it should stay in 3rd even longer.

Planning on installing a line lock as well in the next couple of weeks to make it more consistent off the line with better r/t's.

Basically just a solenoid (3000 psi rated) that goes between the master cylinder and the lines to the brakes. When it is shut it holds the pressure on the brakes until you release the valve, even though you have removed your foot from the brakes.

To operate you pull up to the line push the brakes on full and energize the solenoid and remove your foot from the pedal. (full brakes are still on because pressure is held by the solenoid) Then you wait until you are both staged and hit the throttle, torque to stall or whatever rpm you want and hold until tree comes down, then release solenoid. Its faster than releasing the brake manually and more consistent because you are just releasing a switch vs taking pressure off the brakes. Sometimes you have to release the pedal and inch or two before the brake releases depending on how hard you are holding the pedal down.

It is not a good as a transbrake but next thing to it and I don't believe there is anything like that available for the Max unless a trans expert made one for you.

Most of the V8 guys use them for doing burnouts, they just install them on their front brakes. Of course us FWD guys can just use the ebrake for that.

Am I th only one about this? AFAIK this is the fastest N/A FWD VQ auto so far. There are a few altimas in the 13.5-7 range, and juice and blubyu are both close by as well, but this is mid-lower 13's N/A, auto Max I/H/E + some tuning +slicks ..

Hey Mike, you know I have never proven the rear lighter wheels/tires theory. After trying the RX7 spares and motorcycle tires I am now using the millenia rims with some cheap light used tires I had given to me. I just leave them on the rear all the time so I only change the fronts at the track which I can do in 10 mins. I even leave the stock muffler on to race as well because my fastest times have come when it was on, plus its much quieter.

Be interesting to see how you do once you get everything sorted out and crank up the boost some more.

That talon is gonna fly this year. He just got the engine back today, fully built, same for the trans and new clutch. It ran a 12.1 last year on a pooched engine so should be good for a mid to low 11 now, for street tires thats not bad.

So much for his Dad having a faster car. Damm kids these days, ya just can't trust them to respect their elders.

He got it done locally but some of the parts came from Shepherd, supposed to be the best.

This is Marco's site he did the transmission. His DSM is running 9's so far. http://www.magnusmotorsports.com/transmission.htm

Jim, I have a question about this. When you stalled it up to 2700 rpm and launched it, did you get tire spin? Is that why your 60 foot went up? Or did you simply not put the same amount of power down and bog a little?

I can't stalled mine up to 2900 and have it hook up b/c my drag radials won't hold with that kind of launch. I got 2.08 when I launched at 1000rpm. But when I launched at 2900, I got a 2.35 b/c of the tire spin.

My torque converter guy told me the best way to get the best 60 foot is to shock the converter as much as you can. The best way to do this is to launch off idle. In my little experience with this, I've seen my car bogs a little if I stall it really high and release the brake. But I can't wait to try this when i get slicks to see if I can improve on my 2.08 60' by stalling it to 2900. Thanks man and AWESOME times! Keep it up!

No it didn't spin but it feels soft and slow. Didn't bog either just very spongy not quick like from idle. I have always launched right off of idle like you say and it seems to work the best. However, with the line lock I am probably going to run a delay box as well so its more to have consistency than be quick.

Easier on the car launching from idle as well but I won't stall it up util the tree is set and hopefully it won't be any more than a couple of seconds.

I have also contemplated puting in a throttle stop and running about 75% throttle to compare consistency as well, I have an adjustable one made just haven't tried it out yet.

Going to try it tomorrow without the a/c and ps belts on. Don't think it will make much difference but we'll see. We have a 2 day race weekend and I am camping over tomorrow night.

PS Hey Aaron if you want to see what a delay box will do for your r/t's just add about .95 or 1 sec in the delay box setting (starting line) and nail it on the first yellow. Its amazing the difference as opposed to leaving off the 3rd yellow.
