OK my friend just got his dream car about 5 days ago (04 GTO the 5.7, auto) and i have had my max about 3 years and he knows that i like drag racing. i go every chance i get, him on the other hand has never raced a day in his life. he challenged me to a race on the day the track opens back up, first weekend in april. so far all he has done to it is exhaust, just mufflers and an oval tip. he is getting a cai that he ordered tomorrow and im going to help him put it in because he is scared to do it himself. he is planning on getting a ram air hood and MAYBE a throttle body spacer, thats probably all he is gonna have done to it by the time its open. on my car i have the cattman headers and muffler with full 2.5 exhaust(no cat or resonator), UR UDP. lots and lots and lots and lots of weight reduction, place racing cai, JWT ECU, dr mod, stock suspension, (will have jbars in a couple of weeks), and on stock sawblades *i want to get 16 or 17" ssr comps with slicks but i cant find any). my best ET on a 65 degree day was 9.37@77.22 mph and that was without some of the weight reduction, and ecu. i plan on COMPLETELY stripping the interior to bare bones. I also removed all the power steering components and tomorrow im doing the same with a/c. what do you guys think will be the outcome of this race??? i plan on getting it on camera so dont worry about that!! just give me your .02 i have never seen a gto make a pass at a track so.......GO FOREIGN MUSCLE!!

 

You will get beaten badly. I beat one at the track one time a few months ago, he was barely modded and got a bad launch, and I barely beat him, 13.8 to 13.9.

 

You are going to lose.. my best 1/8th in the altima was 9.01 @ 79 and my friend's stock 04 GTO beats me.. It's actually fairly close till about 80-90 then he really starts pullin away.. the higher you go, the worse it gets. His best ET is 13.6 @ 104

 

You will be completely destroyed unless a meteorite hits his car when he is staging. You don't have a prayer.

BTW tell your friend to do some research if he wants to put mods on his car. Those mods he is planning on are crap. If he spends his money right (not on crap like hoods and muffler tips) he can make that car very fast for not much money.

 

he will do between 8.7-9.1 in the 1/8 if he can drive at all.

 

Raced a stock 04 on street tires and we both ran an 8.8 in the 1/8. I don't think you have much of a chance.

 

He doesnt really want to make it fast he just wants to make it sound really good and look good, he doesnt want to do anything to void the warranty on it. I think that i will be able to get close to a 9.1 and im pretty good on the tree so MAYBE if i beat him it will be on the tree.

 

And the tree is the only place you might beat him.

Yeah your gonna get beat pretty bad. 96sleeper ran a 14.2 when his max was an auto and he had just about everything you could think of done to his it. And those GTO's are good for 13.6 -13.7.

 

dont get down, still go out and give it a good honk ! that 5.7l is mean ! advantage GTO ! as for as SSR this could be old news but as for as i know they went out of business ?

 

Well this past sunday me and my friend went to a test and tune at the track and we made a couple of passes, he made 3 i only made 2. he wanted to race right when i got there instead of letting my engine cool down. we only got beside eachother once so we could race eachother, when we crossed the line our friends said he only had me by maybe a foot. his best time was a 9.16 his worst was a 9.4 which was his last and both of mine was 9.4s like i said the engine wasnt cool like i usually have it when i race. in this warmer weather *75-80 degrees* my best was a 9.51 and i beat that with a 9.4 with a warm engine. with my car and the experience i have racing the difference of it being warm and cold can be as big as a 3 or 4 tenth difference. i believe that when i get my trac bars and the wheels and tires that i found i can take him with a cold engine. didnt get a chance to record it cuz i couldnt find the battery to video camera, but will get it next time for sure
