Your title says "5 gen 6sp"...by that do you mean a 5th gen (3.0L) w/ a 5spd trans or a 5.5 gen (3.5L) w/ a 6spd? The GS has a fair bit of power and a decent automatic so I'd say the 6spd driver would have to be pretty on top of things to not lose.

Was talking about a 6spd 2k2 max. So it will be a good race. What about highway?

You're obviously in the wrong forum as that sort of talk is prohibited here.

I have personally taken a dead stock gs430 through the quarter at Bithlo (orlando) at 13.85

Same car went 13.5 with a different differential though the rest of the car is dead stock.

What's amazing is how small the exhaust piping where they join on that car and it still can do a 13.8 dead stock.

Sprint's cousin (had a GS400 at the time) raced DMBMaxima (had a 2k2 at the time) on the highway and the 2k2 lost but put up a good fight.

A gs400 will edge out a 5th gen maxima. Not by much though.

I can vouch for the fact that the GS is not faster than a 5.5g on top end. Don't ask me how I know this.

I have two friends with GS400s. Both cars are basically stock. One went 14.7@96mph and the other went 14.8@95mph. I have watched two other GS400s runs at my track and they were in the 14.5-14.8@96mph range. I fail to see how these cars are reported as topend beasts. I don't race on the street and i've never been in my friend's GS400 at WOT on the highway; however, looking at the trap speeds of 95-96mpg suggests to me that the cars have decent topend acceleration, but it's nothing mind blowing. Now if the cars were doing 14.5s@101mph+ than I'd think differently.

Why are you trying to race a GS400.. anyway you look at it its a slow overweight cow. Go back to picking on civics.

gs400 would smoke a stock maxima i fear. to the guy who asked why the gs400 is a top end monster the gs400 top speed is around 180mph with a limiter of 150mph. gs400 1/4 is 14.4 stock btw.

i have a superchared maxima and a gs400 - they are a close battle.

gs400 a slow overweight cow? lol curb weigth 3700 lbs with 300 hp... i think not

with exhaust and a few tweaks the gs400 can achieve 350 hp. that in the 13s in the 1/4. i had to go with wider tires becaus the gs400 simple screams off the line.

the gs400 is simply speaking, "a big beast". I'd say it is a bit on the heavy side, but its got that engine to cover the wieght issue so it all evens out.

i dont kno if i agree that it is over weight when it only weights roughly 200-300 lbs more then a cl-s (2 door acura). the gs400 stock can beat a camaro z28 in the slalom (with optional 17" wheels). i own both a maxima 98 and gs400 98 - my maxima has many performance mods both engine and suspension. the gs400 is bone stock except the removal of exhaust resonators. they are pretty even in performnce. I have a gtech pro and am getting a ¼ mile of 14.2 out of my gs400 anda ¼ mile of 13.9 out of my maxima.

one thing i love about the gs400 is the ricers that think they can beat me. better have a bottle hehe. itll cost u 12$ for that run lol.

thing i love about my maxima is the ricers that think they can beat me untill they hear the whine of my supercharger lol.

im not saying i am unbeatable - im saying my cars both run great and have no issues what so ever - totally reliable cars. its funny to watch some guy destroy his engine just to beat barely beat me lmao.

All I can offer is my own experience with the gs400 coupe. Some young punk driving one thought he was the sh#$. He was talking like the leather in his car was worth more then my max. Anyways it was an awesome feeling to walk (and walk I did) past him after he beat me off the line. That's why I never talk trash.

yeah the sc400 coupe isnt as fast as the gs400.

Lexus SC 400 7.2 15.4
Lexus GS 400 5.8 14.3

pretty big difference...

I'll preface by saying I don't street race, but I do take the opportunities to accelerate hard up to highway speed when I'm feeling the bug. I had an older guy try to punk me for lane position from a dead dig driving a GS400 the other day. I anticipated what he was going to try to pass me and cut over, so I got the jump on him off the line. From the sound of his throttle body just off my passenger rear door, he was working the car hard. I stayed ahead of him the entire time and backed off at 80mph. It was good to see the Max holding ground against a significantly higher powered car.

ive smoked stock 99 maximas in my gs400 - if you have some performance mods like a supercharger i could see where your coming from but i think he might not have been tryin. this is coming from a maxima guy...

also keep this in mind - the gs400 can do mid 13 easy with less than 1000$ in mods. ive seen a few guys getting in the 12s with very little $. no nitrous - no forced induction - all engine

I know quite a bit about what works and doesn't work on the GS400 seeing that a couple friends have them and mod them. 13s are not easy to come by and lower 14s stock are even harder to come by.

I've never seen a GS at the track, but one of my best friends had a GS400 and later a GS430 in the family and I always regarded it to be a real rocket. We never did get to run either of them against my 96 bolton maxima but I think it'd have been a very very close run. There is really no doubt in my mind that either of those cars could have been piloted to a low 14 @ 99ish mph.

Can anyone compare the performance of a GS400/430 to that of the new V8 S4s? Because I DID get a good run in with one of those on the highway, actually the day that I ran my best ever times in my 96 maxima, and I got yanked on the freeway to the tune of about 2, possibly 3 car lengths from 80-140+ mph (this was like, two and a half years ago so it's hard to remember exact distances). So if they are similar in performance, then the race I had may be quite telling...

you might need to do some research on this. stock gs400 is 14.4 all day long. most are getting 13s with the srt intake and ecu which runs around 500$ add exhaust and torque convertor and you running an easy 13. my bone stock gs400 best time is 14.2 power braking it (using gtech pro). make sure your talking about the gs400 and not the gs430 - ive seen a pretty big difference in hte two. the gs430 seems much slower because of a probelm with throtle response.

http://www.swiftracing.com/news/gs400reviews.htm

i think its crazy to say the gs400 doing low 14s is hard to come by. maybe someone running 215/60/16s that isnt getting any traction and doesnt know how to come out of the hole.

When it comes to a 99 Max against a GS400, I can only say that from the sounds of the guy's car, he was working it. Who really knows, unless you're driving the Lexus, whether he was at WOT, but it sure sounded like it. My car has nothing crazy, just Y, CAI, and a 5spd, so nothing crazy. I guess the only real way to find out is go to the track, and line then up and hope that both drivers run the car hard.
