Second time at the track, improved, let me know what you think.

I made it back to the track again finally, for my second time ever. My first time thread is linked below. My previous best time was:

R/T - .704
60' - 2.320
1/8 - 9.867 / 71.60
1/4 - 15.269 / 91.23

Mods then were Hacked Air box, K&N panel filter, CMS/AGX suspension, STS, 5G clutch, and Toyo Proxes TPT set at 25psi in the front.

This is the thread that I made from my first runs ever at the track: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=472536, including weather conditions, etc.

This past Saturday I went back to the same track: NYIRP. Chill as always, I ran in shorts again. I'll post the weather conditions below. New mods for these runs: Warpseed alum. Y-pipe and a custom catback with 2.5" mandrel bent piping exiting through a 5th gen. muffler. Instead of a full tank of gas, I had just over a 1/4 of a tank. Spare and jack were in the car. Front tire pressure was 25psi again. My best run of the day (Personal best 60' and 1/4 time):

60' - 2.208
1/8 - 9.557 @ 73.78 mph
1/4 - 14.822 @ 92.90 mph

As for shifting, I redlined first, 6300-6400 in second, 6100 in third, and fourth for the remainder of the quarter. My best mph for the day (as well as personal best) was 93.18 mph.

Weather conditions are as follows, best run was at 5:25 pm, best mph at 6:26 pm.

How does/do these runs/mph sound considering mods and 60'? I was expecting consistent 93 mph traps or above, but most of my runs were 92.9 at most. I got 14 runs in for the day, spanning 6 hours. Not bad for 12 bones again.

Well you obviously improved your 60' and ET which is good. Were you letting the car cool down enough between runs though? For those mods I'd think your ET and trap could be a bit better yet. Also how heavy are the drive wheels?

I let the car sit a while...probably not enough though. Unfortunately it didn't seem to matter when I did let it sit for this Mustang on Mustang event part of the way through the day. However, that run, I blew the 60' since I was lined up with a mid-8 sec race car and I couldn't hear myself think. I don't know though - with almost breaking into 2.1 territory on that 60', I thought my ET and trap would be better. Any other input?

Oh, wheels are stock 15" sawblades.

It usually takes 45min to 1hr to really cool the car adequately between runs, especially with a stock USIM and fuel rail setup, and depending on air temps too of course.

But I suspect you were running heat soaked enough most of the time to hurt you somewhat. Now I realize this might not be exactly reflective of what you did but 14 runs in 6 hrs is an average of 2.3/hr, which means less than 1/2 hr cool down time in between.

Can heatsoak really make THAT much of a difference though? I mean, I'm sure Canada is cooler right now and everything else, but JClaw's old Maxima (driven by his brother) just went 95 mph with the same mods. I guess I'll just have to go back and find out....I'll see about this Friday.

edit...I know heatsoak is a factor, but would it affect my car's power to that extent as to lose 1-2 mph? I just want to make sure my car is healthy.

I think so. Last weekend I ran 13.00@104.38 on a cool engine. I did another pass right after that and ran 13.19@102.75. The difference in ET was probably mostly due to a bad launch but look at the trap speed difference....

And trust me, my car was about as heatsoak resistant as you can make a VQ30. Returnless fuel rail, plastic manifold and intake, low temp T-stat and fan control etc..

The other thing is make sure you don't have a KS code. It won't trip the CEL but if it's bad you'll be losing a lot of power.

Heat soak is a bich. With those mods you should be trapping at least 94, but your 14.8 is not shabby at all. The 2.2 is nothing great, and is defintely keeping you in the high 14's. I suck at launching and my best is a 2.2, on the average I run 2.3.

DandyMax - KS was replaced before I even did my first modification...haha, that was a modification in itself!! Thanks for the reply...I'm just going to have to be more patient at the track the next time...and hold out for a good day. It's so hard waiting to run though...even though I was concious (sp?) about my car's temp, my friends were hassling me to go sooner since they wanted to run again.

Jon - what were the conditions of your best mph run? Seems like we have the same basic power mods...were you heatsoaked too? 8 thousandths off of a 2.1xx 60', I would have loved to hit that. Damn, I need to get back to the track...

My best runs, both at New England Drag Way.

4/30/05 @ 9:09 pm

60' - 2.259
1/8 - 9.619 @ 74.08 mph
1/4 - 14.916 @ 92.24 mph

Mods that matter: eibach/agx suspension, y pipe, stillen intake, unsure about wheels, possible weight reduction.

10/21/05 @7:57 pm

60' - 2.376
1/8 - 9.664 @ 74.62 mph
1/4 - 14.952 @ 93.39 mph

Mods that matter: eibach/agx suspension, y pipe, cone filter with bored MAF, stock wheels, prolly no weight reduction.

old skool slips of mine

nice times ! i say heat soak hurts but i have had some interesting results at times with a heatsoaked engine. so i dont know, but i still prefer a cool engine vs a hot one.

Ceasar! What's up man? Long time no talk. I hope to get back to the track soon...probably next Friday if the weather cooperates. I'm goign to aim for 2.1xx, and I'll give my car time to cool. Hopefully weather will cooperate for me. After all those runs, now that I think about it, it seemed like third was taking a long time, and getting into fourth was late. Maybe that's heatsoak for me.

Jon - sorry for not replying sooner, thanks for posting them up.
