I need practice BAAADLYY!!

Theres plenty of tracks here in NC but all but 2 or 3 are 1/8th mile, so i went to the 1/8. This was my first time out with my 5 speed. I've only been driving 5 speed for 2 months or so. Completely stock except for K&N panel filter. Let me tell u, i need practice badly. im a big peice of garbage actually. I messed up all 3 of my runs.

the first run, i launched at 2.3k or so, punched it, didnt move. the rpms shot up to 4.5k when i decided maybe i should let go of the pedal. ok, never gonna launch that high again.

Next run, launched from 1.2k, playing with the throttle didnt lose traction too much , didnt feel the tires peeling too much. wen i went to shift to 3rd, bam, i missed the gear and was stuck in neutral for a second b4 i got it into 3rd to finish the run. so i messed that one up, which was my best run, but couldn've been better.

third run, launched from 1.5k or so, hit the gas a little bit more aggessively than the previous launch and the car hopped like crazy. i felt that this was my best run overall b/c the launch wasnt as bad as the 1st and i didnt miss third gear like the second run. either way they all sucked.

...........1st run...............2nd.................... 3rd run
60 ft.....2.792................2.428................. ...2.535
330.......7.285.................6.771............. ......6.96
mph......61.53................. 207.66 (im fast)......110.82(LOL)
1/8.......10.872...............10.445............... ....10.561
mph......69.01..................65.85............. .......68.73

So now you've seen my poor excuse for a timeslip. Overall, im kinda upset b/c i sucked it up, but im ok b/c just by looking at my slips and what happened in each run im positive im way quicker than my 15.9 1/4 timeslips for my 96 auto. and the auto has mods.

i know its hard to predict a 1/4 time considering i didnt have a clean run at all, but wut do u guys think the car could be capable of by looking at the numbers and assuming i dont *** up anything (and i learn how to drive)? i may go bak later this week to get real times b4 i install the y-pipe and b-pipe sitting in my room.

You're not necessarily launching too high of rpms, myself, I launch at 3k rpms. The key is though, clutch slip. You can't drop the clutch or any of that business and just put the pedal down. IIRC, on my best 60' runs, I wouldn't be WOT until around or over 4k in first. However, up until that point, the clutch wouldn't be fully out and I would have a considerable amount of throttle working.

Practice is key...balance (which you start to get when you practice more and more) is also key. On street tires, it's all a balancing act to get off the line fast -- balance of traction and throttle to get those 60' times after you launch, and balance when launching to leave from a stop as fast as possible without shocking the drivetrain a lot and inducing spin. Good luck with your future runs.
