i just recently put intake on my 02 max se, 6spd. stock i ran a 14.6 at 96 mph

with intake i ran a 14.139 at 98.16 mph
with a 60' time of 2.144
my exhaust is next along with headers that should put me at the 13.5 range "hopefully".

i'm gonna get the videos of my 14.1 and 14.3 runs.

i'm ran with falken ziex ze329's and stock rims

and the intake is pretty much a custom short ram. it's pretty much a couple, the MAF another couple, cone filter, that's it. it's like a 13-15 inches long, and for you guys that have intake (if you haven't already) take that stupid screen off of your MAF it's useless and restricts air flow. I know you might say how, I have no clue but it does. And tomorrow i'll take pics of the timeslip.

I heard the same thing about the screen on the s10 forums, but have not try'd it yet

Said to smooth flow and allow for better day to day driving/idling.

I saw a 2% flow increase on what the MAF saw when I removed mine.

Spend the money on lightweight 17's. You wont regret it.

The screen on the MAF both smooths the airflow across the heated element and protects the sensor against foreign objects like grains of sand or blades of grass.

"but it's not getting in there" really? you sure about that? last time you changed your stock air filter, how much grass and sand did you see around the sides of the filter when you pulled it out? think it's possible that ONE blade of grass got into the intake piping? all it takes is that one blade of grass landing on the heated MAF element to ruin a $500 part.

As well, it promotes smoother flow across the sensor. with a regular tube, the majority of the airflow is down the center of the tube. with the MAF sensor in the dead center of the pipe, that means the sensor sees the most air. this in turn causes the thing to assume there's more air flowing into the engine than there really is. this makes you run rich, decreasing gas mileage and actually LOSING power in many cases.

Cliff's Notes: Leave the screens on your MAF. engineers that are smarter than you put them there for a reason.

you'd be better off going smaller than that if you're buying them for drag racing. almost anything 'lightweight' is better than the stockers, but make sure you're not overdoing it.

I thought the same thing, but even the stock A33B brakes will fit under only certain 16" wheels. My A34 upgrade will not fit under anything else aside from 17". I'm sure there's a wheel out there with the correct offset & spoke design, but mehh. I'm fine.

Our MAF's are less than 100$ though Got my spare for 55$ used. DAEB seels them for IIRC 112$.

One of my new MAF housing are screen less.

My other housing has a superior design vs even the stock one. Has honeycomb & a screen, high quality.

The rich problem can be fixed w/ a SAFC.

Brakes are far from 13". They're 11.68" IIRC.

stock brakes for an 02-03 are 11.65 x 0.94".

it's possible to fit them under 16" wheels, but yeah, you'll most likely need 17s. I forgot about them being larger than the 00-01 which came with 16" wheels.

OEM Mass air sensor for VQ35.. part # 22680-AM600. List price $500.40
there may be superseded parts now, but that's mainly because people blew them up every time they floored the car before.. due to the sensitivity of it, I highly recommend NOT taking tools to them.

and "fixing" the rich problem with an SAFC is a stupid plan. don't mess with your MAF and you don't need to 'fix' anything. If you mod beyond the ECU's ability to tune (bigger injectors, head work, larger aftermarket MAF, boost, whatever), then that's another issue altogether.

You can use the 01 MAF sensor if you transplant the IAT. --->http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=348395

My stupidity reins my modding habits.

5.5 gen GXEs come stock with 16s
I wish a set of 300zx or RX7 wheels could clear my brakes but

About the comparison between the stock/'modded' times I doubt the increase was solely from the intake...too many variables involved to determine that.

Yeah I think that i just finally get a good start. I didn't burn up through 1st, and 2nd. But i JUST GOT A Stage 1 clutch, along with my exhaust so I'm going back to the track to test it all out.

yea I was thinking the same thing. 2mph faster trap from just an intake is possible I guess, but a.5 sec faster time... there had to have been other variables not mentioned.

97gshogun, I have a 3.5 swap and like u, I too EASILY burn right through 1st and 2nd (the easy to spin my tires has to be more pronounced in my car due to my car's ~300-400lbs lighter curb weight [2945lbs full trim, last time I weighed it]. Im curious as to your launch technique. How did you launch before and what did you do this time to land that 2.1sec 60'foot?

I've already gotten plenty of ideas on what to try next, but hey more input doesnt hurt.

Great job on the runs!

Well first time I went out there I rev'd to high. So that run I rev'd around 2000-2500 rpm's it's good spot. And the right tires matter also. hope that helps you. And for the clips of my 14.1 and 14.3 runs, visit my myspace, @ http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...=vids.myvideos

Optimize the entire intake set-up, and see better gains than 'just an intake'

Slapping items on here and there isn't wise. Get everything working synergistically.

Also, to the OP, you need to get that PCV breather back into the intake tract, because your AFR is suffering because it's not there.

well at baytown, local track here in houston. they cut the slips in half and one half goes to you and the other half goes to the person i the next lane. i guess it's a matter of not knowing what the guy next to you has!!

but i put my y pipe on and my trap speed went up to 99.63 but my 1/4 mile time is still 14.136

here's 2 of my 3 runs pics of slips and link to vids:

run against turbo'ed 4th gen
