If you're rockin an auto, is it quicker to shift manually, or leave it in D?

Perhaps. I ran a 15.5 @ 90 (with a 2.4x 60' time though)

For the stock intake manifold, leave it in D. Wait, you're a 2k2...nevermind, I'll let someone else chime in.

really it depends on the driver, where the TCM decides to shift, and experience. the only way you can know whats best is to try it. one mans 13s strategy can lead to another's 14.6s.

The question was if the driver elft it in D, would it make a difference. Meaning, we weren't discussing launch/etc.

According to my experience, the TCM shifts @ 6000 RPM +/- 8% when left in "D". Jime has also proven there is a very minmal effect re: 1/4 mile ET's when shifting @ fuel cut vs 6k(i.e. leaving it in "D") in a very close to stock A33B.

Most importantly, it depends on the powerband of the vehicle.

everyones experiences are different, you have to try it both ways. i used to have a 5.5auto...it was faster for me to shift myself. so keep the absolutes away, there are very few that correctly apply to drag racing. plus, youve admitted yourself that your car's a dyno queen

I've ran at the track a few times, but since I'm a mile high, I don't post them. If I posted them w/correction, that would just be After I run, I feel like .

Uncorrected I put down what a near stock 4AT does @ sea level, but my powerband is different. Anyone with a little experience with these cars can decipher my times & possibly get pretty close guess as to what my trap speed is from my powerband.
