Meh!... about my results

Went to the track last nite with streetzlegend, GoalieKeg and NISMOLOGY!!!!!! (some1 please ask him how he did )

Bottom line, no matter what I do, I cant seem to break out of 14.5 FTMFL! After every run, I'd write on the timeslip what I did on that launch so I could better keep track of what works, what doesnt.

Things I did...
- 1500 launch, dump clutch, ease into gas (this got me a 2.2 60' finally!)
- 1500 launch, slip clutch, ease into gas
- 1800 launch, hopped like hell (and yes my traction bars are on, so it would have been worse)
- Some I did 1500, but went too fast on the gas so I spun out (yet still managed high 2.3s). The ones that I would ease into the gas, as soon as rpms went into my powerband (4000+) they'll start to spin.
- All of them, going into 2nd, I'd spin. I tried to slip the clutch into it but I didnt do it enough, as I spun 2nd on all of them. gtr_rider noticed this too.

I ran full trim as always, had exactly 1/2 tank of gas, I was on the 17x8 Borbets with 235/45/17 Fusion ZRis at 21psi. Race weight was 3025ish.

Honestly, my problem is traction. I try to slip the clutch and go on the gas nicer into 2nd, but dont REALLY do it, lol. I guess its engraved in my head that I have DRs on, lol. I try what you guys have suggested to me, but its not working for me. So next time I go to the track, its gonna be on the Z32 wheels, on drag radials.

My best 60'
60'= 2.287
1/8= 9.68 @ 75.7
1/4= 14.77 @ 96.43

Best ET
60'= 2.34
1/8= 9.50 @ 76.7
1/4= 14.53 @ 96.7

Best Trap
60'= 2.35
1/8= 9.66 @ 76.9
1/4= 14.67 @ 97.7

Also, my previous best was 14.5 @ 98 with a 2.30 60' from back in Feb... Since then I have done grey99max's 16v Ignition system, spark plugs gapped to .49 (no missfire at all, pulls much smoother than previously, even at this bigger gap.. I'll cover this later on another thread in the near future), SSIM, WSP Catback, and retuned to 13.5:1. Confirmed by buttdyno, actual dyno, and the fact I cant stop my heavy wheels n tires from spinning, lol.

I dont do weight savings, so please dont bother suggesting that. Even at full trim, I should be doin better than this. Once I get some DRs to help my traction we'll see for real #s from this car, I know its got PLENTY more to give if it just caught traction.

2.5 theories from me

1.) DA was much worse. (Late May vs Feb)

2.) SSIM - CVTC = decent trap, lower ET.

0.5) Perhaps a combination of the 2.

Heavy wheels FT/?

I know, I'm being lazy, but it be nice to compare the timnes to the previous runs. You and I need our own separate personal ongoing threads that cover all of our endeavors.

ease off line, pick up speed roast tires, grab second slowly mash gas light them up again thoroughly. It was pretty interesting to actually see him try and fight the monsterous tq, maybe next time.

If it's traction then look at the tires and suspension.. was the car squatting badly all the time?

Ditto + suspension

Sagging rear suspension will give more wheel spin, when the car sinks back on launch the old shocks can't bring the rear up fast enough letting the front lift .. loosing traction. its my theory and I'm sticking by it

NMexMAX= It was indeed hotter tonight than back then. Back then it was in the low 70s*, last nite was like ~77* but ubber humid n sticky, so it felt hotter.

Actually yes, my wheels are heavy. Wheels are 22lbs, the tires (per tirerack's specs) are 24lbs, so a 46lb combo. I spin them with no problem, tires arent sticky enough, but wow, the weight of these 17s really helps me to not spin as much at the top of 2nd. My other set is Z32 wheels (16lb) with the same tires but 225/50s (23lbs) so thats a 39lb combo, and those ***** I can spin into 3rd no problem, lol. So for the next time, Im going with the Z32 wheels wrapped on DRs. That should make for an interesting night.

I like that idea, lol. My last best (and still my best..../) looked like this
60'= 2.30
1/8= 9.48 @ 77.4
1/4= 14.53 @ 98.06

Jsutter= It sucks knowing the car has so much more in it than the #s show, all because you cant put the power down, arg!

gtr_rider= Luke thats easier said than done, LOL. I'll let you try to launch my car and I'll video tape your reaction when that steering wheel jumps out your hand, LOL. No but I really did try to ease into the gas on 1st, thats when I was getting the 2.2 60's, but I guess i would ease into it too slowly, because for those 2.2 launches I got the 14.7s. And the hoparrific/ spinnar00ny 2.3s are wat got me the 14.5s, lol. DRs!!!!! GIVE!!!!!!!!!!! Come on dog, call BFG/ Nitto/ M/T, tell them you'll do a write up on it

Dandymax= My tires I know arent worth a d@mn at the track with my power. On the street they are great. grip is great, not loud, stiff sidewall, pretty good wear for my driving, etc... But for the track... uh, they leave me hanging, lol.

My suspension is fine. Traction bars really helped to keep that front end planted, and the AGXs set to fill stiff did a great job at keeping that rear end rock solid.

Thanks for the replies!

Your theory is well founded, I agree. Its just not the case with me. You gotta do something about that soon, theres more to be had out of your car than what its doing right now (gee that sounds familiar for some reason? lol)

? Check here for cheap race slicks ? something to try, anyway....

http://stores.ebay.com/Race-Tires-USDRRT

Make an offer 50% less than Buy It Now - they might take it.... I've got two pairs of 23.5/12/15" (18 lb) to try out soon.

nice, I'll keep an eye there for some. I want to do SFCs before I get back into the traction situation. Rattly chassis is driving me nuts with sprints/ AGXs, lol. After that, its time for stickier rubbers! Thank you sir

Some good runs man, you just need that 60' fixed like you've been saying, and I see 13's in your future. I predict you won't be staring at my tail lights much sooner once you get those DR's on, I'm going to be hoping that I don't launch bad or mis-shift.

Well I already mentioned to you about what Im doing (SFCs> stickier rubber be it slicks or DRs> xxXXxxXXxxXXxx ). So get rid of that heat-soaking top mount IC and go FMIC and keep modding, cus you gonna need some more parts to catch me then :-X Launch yea its a given you'll own me still, lol.... but after the 1/8mi... o0o0o0!!!!

Fun times to come!!!

You might not have gotten wheelhop on 15-inch wheels, not to mention probably a higher trap speed. Rock hard 17-inch tires are wheels are about the worse thing you can get for the track. The only thing worse is something bigger, heavier, and harder. Just stock wheels with all seasons would probably do better.

Actually just get slicks.

You should be trapping 100 mph though. 3.5 right?

Ceasar- Maaaaaan. See gtr_rider has an ubber camera. So I asked him to bring it bla bla. Get back home and ask him to let me know when the videos will be up. Tells me "ubber camera doesnt take videos"...... BLAHHHHH!!!! LOL

JClaw- You're right aboutt he rock hard 17s not helping. I was just trying to do better on those, which are my street wheels/tires. I guess thats as far as the'd go at the track. I know if, for example, I had some BFG G-grip Sports instead of these, wow, it woulda have made a nice difference, but still not to where the car should be.

I could get DRs, but honestly, if I do stick to my plans for the rest of the year, DRs wont hold, lol Slicks it is! What size do you guys recommend? Most Likely I'll be mounting them on 15" sawblades since they are readily available to me.

If you go through with your plan, I'm going to need a bigger turbo.

Definately a 24x8, 24.5x8 slick. 23x7.5s will be softer on your drivetrain though

hmmm, you know the whole reason of me never doing weight savings for the track was because I didnt see the point in of saying my car runs XX.X at the track (with x lbs off), but when its back on the street and you put everything back in, its obviously no longer capable of running that.

But on my street wheels/tires, i cant seem to break 14.5s, so I HAVE to put on slicks (thus breaking my view^^). If Im breaking that, I MIGHT AS WELL do weight savings, since its obviously no longer "street-trimmed" in my eyes. So yea, it'll be interesting #s indeed
