My first time at the dragstrip - Cayuga, ON

I went to the drag for the first time yesterday, and I had a blast.

1996 Infinti I30t
213,000 km
16" CSA rims with crappy *** 205/55R16 Goodyear RS-A
Automagic transmission with tranny cooler

- Removed subwoofer box, left in spare tire
- Set AGX to full stiff
- Disconnected auto tranny resistor
- HAI with resonator
- y-pipe and b-pipe
- VAFC II, tuned to about a 13.9 AFR

With my tires, I couldn't brake torque to more than 1300 or else I would spin. It reallym sucks. I did buy some R compound tires to fit on my 15" rims, but I couldn't get them mounted in time. I also need to retune. Time for a wideband.

I don't have my slips on me, but I did three runs. My best 60' was 2.44, and my traps were a consistent 87MPH. My times were 16.1, 15.9 and 16.0. I beat an SRT-4 cause his launch really sucked

I didn't even lower my tire pressure because I forgot to bring a portable cigarette lighter air pump. My prep sucks!

Comments, concerns, questions? Hopefully, I can only go up from here!

Time for a wb AND a 00VI. That would be my next step.

What were the ambient conditions like?

Good on ya for getting out there Renny, was it busy?

Weather wasn't that great, hot and muggy (well down in KW it was but I assume the same over there...)

Hey Dandy, thanks for the well wishes.

it wasn't as busy as I expected. I think because the weather report called for a little rain, a lot of people backed out (especially a lot from Torontomaxima!), but the rest of the event had a number of people. It was VERY muggy.

Regarding the correction factor, I'm not sure where to find that out. Is it on the slips? I don't have them with me right now.

Yes next mods are probably an 00VI and a wideband. I may put that on hold, as I've got some other commitments, but it's very enticing once you start...

Check to see if your knock sensor is working properly.

It's not popping up on my OBDII reader. I guess I could check the resistance of the sensor itself

What kind of cars did you run against on those 3 runs?

Regular OBD-II will not pull a knock code. Get it checked with a consult-II. Mine shows up on a consult but not a generic OBD-II.

I was there on Sat but have an electrical issue so didn't stay over for the race on Sun. I sure would have noticed you, hardly ever see another Nissan there.

Tires are the biggest problem at the track, slicks are best but DR's work.

Hope you get interested in racing, there are regular bracket events that you can enter as well in the street class, next one is Sun, Jun 10th.

First time I went 4 years ago with a 3.0L I ran a 16.1 best and I got hooked.

Jim what's up? Thought I'd have heard about you beating your PB by now with the VTC's active... still having issues?

It a WOT thing with the DBW and limp mode. Dave is trying to help me but we haven't gotten it figured out yet. I did get an 03 ECU from a 6 spd and got it programmed on Mon but almost the same as the auto one. Have to sleep on it a bit.

I'm definitely interested. Unfortunately, with all the wedding planning and house closing items coming up, my next time at the track will be Friday, June 29 at the test and tune. I wasn't ready to enter into a bracket even just yet, this being my first drag event.

That's too bad about your electrical issue. There were many nissans on Sun. A few friends with 240's were in the drifting competition, and few on the track, there was a Skyline meet, etc. It was a good time, but of course, the good action was on the track.

I ordered a Wideband

The cars I ran against were:
1. Honda S2000 (if I remember correctly)
2. 93 Honda civic, I/E he said
3. Now, don't laugh to hard... a Dodge SRT-4! Yes I won, and yes he misshifted badly, and he almost caught up to me!

Work on that reaction time!

I beat an SRT-4 in the 1/8th before because he miss shift 1-2. Boy was he coming back fast.

Why? For personal reasons maybe, but it has absolutely no affect on the final ET. You could have a 16 second RT, and till run a 13.8 1/4.

Yeah. I wasn't too concerned with my reaction time yet. Just trying to find the proper way to launch on the tires I had on at the time.

WB o2 is on the way, as is the controller.

http://www.oxygensensor.net/lsu-4.html

Total $120 CDN. Now to get an O2 bung.

When I tuned on the dyno, I was aiming for a 13.9 AFR. My understanding is that may be too high. I had removed the setting for the VAFC2 for the last run that I did.

Yeah I wouldn't go quite that high. 13.0 to 13.2 is my recommendation, 13.5 at most.

I'm going to retune once I get my wideband setup. The dyno is just too expensive to tune at.
