Hey guys,

I went to the drag strip (where I actually raced) for the first time with my brother Saturday night and ran about 10 times. Here are my three best times, I have no idea if these are good or not, so feel free to let me know.

9.086 @ 80.48mph w/ 1.165 reaction (this run came off a hot lap)
9.122 @ 80.64mph w/ .678 reaction
9.331 @ 73.54mph w/ 1.255 reaction

The max seemed to be running stout, I had extreme difficulties launching due to the old, hard, and balding goodyears. There was an over abundance of wheel hop that could almost not be stopped. To minimize the wheel spin I was launching from less than 1500rpms. I had almost no clutch slip except a little in 3rd gear on a few occasions.

Here is the rundown:

Mods: JWT Popcharger, redline MT-90 Tranny Fluid, shifter bushing kit and Free STS, no jack or spare.

Disadvantages: Old hard tires. 87 Octane (No fuel Additives). No limited slip. (There might be more, I just can't remember.

I don't know how much difference it would make, but I think premium gas, some better rubber and maybe some ES bushing under the front would have me running consistent 8.90's. What do you guys think?

P.S. The 1/4 mile conversion numbers are around 14.12-14.35

I didn't even know there was a drag forum! I just wanted the 5.5 guys to see the times and tell me in what area I sucked.
Should I move it over to that forum?

an admin will probably do it for you

and NmexMax will probably sprout up here soon enough and he will tell you what you can improve on.

From what I can see though, is you need to work on your 60' times badly. So I think your next investment should be some new tires and rims and I would recommend you start using 91 or 93 before long.

wow, a 9.0 1/8th is pretty good, especially with a 2.4 60' and stock.

wow that is good but with that 60ft 2.4 if it was 2.2 or lower you might be doing 8.9 in 1/8 mile

You'll have to forgive my lack of drag jargon, I don't know what a "neal" run is.
The track was nearly dead so I was able to make about 12 runs over the course of 2 hours (I kept all my tickets). The max seemed to perform much better hot lapping it.
To answer your question, yes, 87 octane does cause a little spark knock in bog/low rpm (below 750) situations. I find however that the increase in price is most definitely not worth it for higher octane gasoline, in a miles per gallon instance only. If I was racing this car regularly, which I most definitely do not, I would run 91-93 octane, but 95% of the time this car is loved and babied.

Yes, after reading a couple of threads in the forum I put 2 and 2 together.

My MPG is great. MY DIC (Digital integrated computer I think) tells me I get about 32mpg on the hwy.
However, My brother and I own a OBDII scan gauge that monitors all sensors and mpg with correction factors and that tells me, along with gas receipts, that I get 29.9mpg hwy.
I did a 3 week period and averaged 29.2 with mixed city and hwy. I live in a smaller town, not many stoplights, so I can cruise 2-3 miles @ 35mph to bring my mpg up. Don't baby it though and it gets 21 city.
