14.27 @ 97.36 - 2.16 60' - 2004 SE, 5a

I never got to attempt to beat my stock PB (here). But I added a Fujita CAI, and finally caught some cold weather to make a few runs tonight.

The high today was 58...when I left the track it was 34, which is pointless with regard to traction. Anyway, here are the 2 quickest timeslips of the evening:

14.31 @ 97.80

14.27 @ 97.36

As soon as I got there, I hotlapped about 7 times so I could get used to the traction/launching. I ran between 14.34 & 14.40 mostly w/2.20 60 ft launches. After that, I cooled the car...despite the fact that it was about 46 degrees out. The 14.31 was my first attempt after cooling the car for about 30 minutes. The 14.27 came after the 2nd cooling for 20 minutes.

As with my stock run, there was a slight headwind. In addition to my Fujita CAI, I have 19" G35c wheels and I removed the spare. No other mods whatsoever. The car weighed 3674 lbs with me in it...54 lbs more than my stock runs (HEY...I ate alot over the holidays!). Actually I had over half a tank of gas. Normally I wait until it's under a 1/4 tank before I go, but I don't know when we'll have this weather again, so.... And for you newbs, I just use the Tiptronic shifting and let the car do it's thing. And, yes, I power brake. I think that about covers it.

Nice runs! I don't think the intake has mutch to do with your improvement. By looking at your times you had a better 60 during the 14.27 than the 14.50 and a better trap on your stock run. I credit your improved times to practice. Good job!

Thanks, man. I will agree that the intake isn't worth over two-tenths, but I'll guesstimate at the very least a tenth, and a more stout bottom end for the 2.1x launches. Even with 60 fts to match my stock runs, I went 14.36 & 14.38 with 2.22 & 2.24 60's, respectively. That said, I will also agree...PRACTICE makes perfect. Now I need to free up some of that exhaust to raise my traps.

So is it safe to say that 6-spd would get close to 14 flat.?

I wouldn't say that. I seriously doubt a 6-spd is 2 tenths quicker. But I could be wrong.

Very nice runs. What was the weather like during your stock runs?

Conditions were very similar to Wednesday night. IIRC, it was 45 degrees, sunny, and very little humidity. Wednesday, I had no sun, and a little more humidity.

Pretty impressive! Same times I was running with my Chevelle with a mild 350 (268H Comp Cam) and 4.11s-shifting into 4th right before the traps ftl. 14.25 @ 98 was my best that night before I went nuts on the next engine (way more cam, compression, etc). Oh yeah, my Chevelle weighed a good 200 pounds less than your Maxima-which makes it even more impressive that you can run the same numbers!

Back then, I never would have imagined a 6 cylinder, nearly stock, 4 door Japanese family car running anywhere near a low 14. Amazing what computers and fuel injection can do.

Your trap speed is the same with the intake vs stock, but a couple tenths quicker. Maybe a combination of practice launching and some added midrange power from the intake?

Thanks, man. Well, I definitely got the launch down. And as I mentioned before, even when I ran 2.20 60-fts (like my stock runs) my times were still quicker than my stock run. In my GTP, an intake meant low-end power. And it looks like that's the case here too. I tried to compare slips, and I don't seem to improve a whole lot in the mid-range times (330/1000ft). I'm about to add a Cattmann Y-pipe. I'm sure that will get my traps up around 100. *fingers crossed*
