12.92 @ 104mph w/ 1.69 60 foot - bolt on 3.5 swap - Video added

Finally got in to the 12s with my car NA yesterday. The atmospheric conditions were sick, though my traps left me a little disappointed I was hoping I'd see 105-106mph, not sure why this car isn't making as much power as I expect it to, maybe the 3.0 cams really are a limiting factor, but I was ripping it out of the hole anyways and managed to run a couple 12s as well as a bunch of 13.0s. Pulled the best 60's I've ever pulled, all 1.7s and a lone 1.6. My car was a big hit with people convinced I was spraying and searching for the nitrous line. May spray the car in the next two weeks here though since I have an NX kit sitting around, never installed nitrous though and it is a used kit so I need to make sure I have all the parts I need. grey or jime wanna help out with that

Anyways, my setup is

2002 VQ35 with 3.0L cams and 3.0L cam timing equipment and VIAS blockoff plate
Y-pipe
autozone cone filter on a stick
3.0L throttle body (this might be a bottleneck as well...?)
custom 3" from the flex section back
ACT HD PP and ClutchNet 6 puck sprung hub
TRE trans built by yours truly w/ Quaife LSD and PPG 3rd and 4th straight cut gears (TRE detailed, deburred and shot peened stock 1st, 2nd, 5th, TRE shot peened PPG 3rd/4th)
M&H 8.5x26x15 slicks at about 11.5psi on some random 15x7" wheels (borrowed, thanks maxmaxima91 aka Jeremy my turbo fab guy)
stock 3.0 ignition timing and mid to high 12s AFR (coarsely tuned, my laptop has been dead for a year so I cannot fine tune my emanage, so I just set the AFR to mid/high 12s using the little dials on the front of the emanage).
no weight reduction other than no AC (which is going back in this winter) and stuff like lighter wheels, coilovers, Fidanza flywheel, etc.

I was launching the car at 5500rpm slip-dump, then tried 6000' on my 1.69 60' run and it still held. Never did try higher than that. Probably should have tried redline just to see what it would do.

Weather was ridiculous yesterday, that's why I went to the track when only 1 other person could go with me. my buddy jason who has a really nice turbo 3rd gen. his brother took videos so hopefully I will have those soon.
Temp 43F, dewpoint 25F, pressure 30.33 made for a nice low DA of -600 feet LOL. It was actually even lower earlier in the day, but I got to the track later than I wanted. Oh well.

Something else weird, on my first 4 runs (including my 12.92) my car was breaking up between 5000and 5500rpm. I don't know what that's about. I've never experienced that before but I rarely floor this car on the street so who knows. Maybe old plugs or something, really not sure and I don't remember it happening on my last 2 runs.

My runs were, in order:

13.07 @ 103.2 1.78 60'
13.02 @ 103.2 1.76 60'
13.01 @ 103.2 1.73 60'
12.92 @ 104.0 1.69 60'
12.93 @ 104.0 1.73 60'
13.04 @ 103.5 1.73 60'

Here's the video of my best pass of the day.

Very nice. Is that what you hoped for? If car wasn't breaking up I could see maybe 12.6-12.7....

I was hoping for 13.1s and 105+ traps so I far exceeded one thing I was hoping for but fell short of another. And no the breaking up was so brief it didn't affect things that much. I might have been able to squeak out a 12.8 but it was only 500rpm and it was pretty mild breakup, at first I thought I was imagining it but after 2 more runs I knew it was happening, however slight.

No, turboing again this winter and hopefully prototyping Bikisoft ECU if it ever makes it through customs. Customs has sent it back to Australia twice now...

Nothing at all is removed from this car except the air conditioning which is a total of about 40lbs (which is going back in this winter). Full power leather interior, sunroof, etc. Any other weight reduction is a result of mods like lighter wheels, coilovers, lightened flywheel, etc.

yeah I always launch on slicks at 5500ish so my turbo vids on youtube are me launching like that, but the 60's weren't nearly as good (the two vids I have on youtube are a 1.92 and 1.82 60').

my buddy took videos yesterday so hopefully he will send them to me and I can post them up. I want to see what they look like too.

Man thats awesome, must feel nice hitting those 60'.

As for the nitrous, me being a user for some of years (not as long as harol and jim but still know a lil). I strongly suggest you send both nitrous and fuel solenoids to NX to get checked and if needed they will rebuild/recondition them, it is free (lifetime warrranty ftw) and they dont ask for proof or purchase or anything. NX is my favorite kit, but even the best solenoids need to be checked, i had a nitrous one leak as soon as you opened the bottle.

Sweet 60 ft times Neal. For some reason my car launched alot better when it was n/a. I think I hit a 1.76 when I was n/a, but only 1.8x boosted. I may try to go to the track in a few weeks and see what it will do again. I haven't used the slicks in year or so, they may be no good now.

try em out you may be pleasantly surprised. my buddy who I borrowed these from said they haven't been used since he bought them in 2007 he doesn't think he used them at all last year and he definitely hasn't been to the track this year on them and they sure worked well still. you are running more power now than you were when you ran 11.6 right? go bust some 11.4s!

Hmm.. if I can do 1.73 with a torqueless 3L this gives me hope of getting into the 1.6's with the 3.5L...

Nice to see that you haven't lost your touch at the starting line! I'm sure the great DA helped some, but geeze that's quick for a hybrid 3.0/3.5 - or any other N/A Maxima.

Nitrous, huh? I'd be glad to help you go to the dark side, even if just for this fall. Spraying on your launch would be - interesting...

Great times from that day, and the 60-ft times remind me of my last 1.7s on Oct. 1st. I had a decent DA that day as well. Maybe a MT is good for something after all!
