open Y or full exhaust for track

i have pretty much stock exhaust other than a y pipe, some ****ed up tire shop welded midpipes, and a stock ish muffler welded on. stock cat even.

for 1/8th mile racing tonight should i open up the y pipe? i hear it will kill my torque.

just wondering if anyone has done the research. thanks guys

you're not gonna gain much if anything with just a y pipe, and you'll look and sound like a jackass running an essentially completely stock vehicle with a disconnected stock exhaust.

True, although I've ran open headers before and our cars sounds serious!!!!

It def felt slower though, atleast at low rpms.

With headers/Ypipe and a mostly stock exhaust, I was picking up 2-3 MPH and 2-3 .10s going open Y-pipe.

Not sure if you'd see results as good with just a Y-pipe, but why don't you test to find out?

I thought I would stop by the org this morning for old times sake, rofl !!
Neal your response has made my day. Neals right, you can do it, but people will either laugh, or the whole jackass thing

However I have thought about unbolting the muffler section of the exhaust and running a custom straight pipe for weight reduction. You would have to know me...

I am running a race on sunday with a 11.5 index and plan on running through the resonator and muffler just to prove a point. The noisiest is not necessarily the quickest.
