Getting Good 60' Times

With slicks what RPM should you leave? Few people suggest I should leave at redline.... How safe is this to do?? trying to improve my time here and down the track with same stuff before new mods to see where I stand. Want to have a consistent driving to eliminate (Drivers Error) to see the effectiveness of mods.

WOW!

It depends on the track conditions and what size tire you are running.
The universal response of, "just dump it at redline" will probably not work for you.

Go to the track and test!

Thanks for that tip. More testing is to be done soon. I'm really thinking having the OOvi Gutted has something to do with it too with nothing to really help the low end out in my Mod list.

Don't dump the clutch. Pre load first so you reduce the chance of breaking something.

lol, don't listen to this guy. If you do, be sure to post pictures of your transmission pieces afterwards. There are still a few of my broken tranny pics floating around.

Start low to get a feeling for it. Gradually increase rpm with each launch. Either slip the clutch a little at the start or pre-load the trans before launching. Even if you do this correctly, there is still a chance you will break something if you make it up to redline and it is still hooking.

I broke a differential this way, but it didn't fail until a week after my track visit.

depends on a ton of things - one of the big factors will be how well your clutch holds. if your clutch isn't up to the task then launching from redline is not going to work very well.

Thanks guys for the provided information. Question what exactly do you mean by pre-loading the transmission? Oh and clutch has roughly 15k on it.

Pre-loading is when you hold the ebrake at the line and release the clutch a little to put a load on the car. Kind of like when people use the ebrake to help them start out on a steep hill.

Mileage doesnt mean much. Is this a stock clutch? How well does it hold at the rpm on the street.

PS listen to tuko, sleeper, Krazy and neal

X2!!
Like somebody mentioned, you should preload before you launch, I dont race my Max at the track, but I have a Old School Sentra with a swapped engine and it has seen more than 60 launches at the track on slicks plus the 100s on street tires, always preloading. It helps the drivetrain last longer, dumping the clutch might break some stuff sooner than it should.. Good luck !!

Holds fairly well IMO. No slips and grabs good off stoplights an in between shifts. Wish I had SS clutch lines for firmer feel in clutch pedal. The clutch is an Exedy OEM clutch. I bought the kit so TOB and PP were included. Chirps second pretty good on the AE 350z 18's and spins second hard on sawblades chirping third a few times.

Will try the pre-loading next track date if I remember while at line. Any rpm recommended doing this? Probably will be on the slicks again.....

Haha on the PS ........ but yeah not ready for redline takeoff's yet. 5spds aren't cheap for me yet and the 1/4 mile track is a hour and thirty mins from my house.
