New PB with Tuner Tape

So I finally figured out something was either wrong with my EMU or J&S. I yanked them both out (I had a patch harness) and just used my stock ECU.

Mods:

V2 SC @ ~13.5PSI (cold air intake)
Intercooled/3" Charge Piping
DW 600cc
91 Octane
Tuner Tape on Z32 MAF set to 10.8-11.1 A/F
Aeromotive AFPR set to stock fuel pressure 1:1 with boost
LSD Tranny with 275k

M&H Drag Slicks 24.5x8.5

I'd like to say that the car finally runs perfect. It didn't hesitate or anything, it just ran like it was supposed to. Thats being said I have to do something with my 60foot/shift faster/shift super close to redline. But that's all seat time and I'm willing to practise more and more (if the tranny holds up eheh)

Here is my Z32 Tape Trick which was inspired by the great grey99max. It took 3 tries to get it where I like it.

We put a little to much tape, A/F was reading around 20 at idle. So another try was in order!

Here was the second try, this gave me a 10.6-10.8 A/F going WOT from 2nd to 3rd. I needed to fine tune it a little more with the trusty tuner tape.

This was it. 10.8-11.1 A/F. Perfect for now, could probably lean it out a little more but I can't complain. This mod is very consistent. It doesn't affect your cruising A/F as long as you have the o2's hooked up and proper fuel pressure. Note the tape was placed on the back side of the MAF (facing the throttlebody).

Now the 1/4 mile slips. My friend ran the fastest time (left side arrow) and I ran my new PB on the right side. Just a note I did run a 109mph run aswell but my 60foot was not as great as his which gave me a 13.1, that and I couldn't find 3rd doh!

Good times and MPH! With a 109-110 trap you could easily dig deeper into the 12's with a little better 60' and 330'. What's the car/setup?

The track prep at this dragway is zero to non. The best we pulled was a 1.78. What air pressure should the slicks be running at? We where down to 10-11psi is that good?

What ever tire pressure you were at when you pulled the 1.7 is good. What were your times before these?

So you're running essentially stock timing now, correct?

I'd like to extend the rev limit. I think I'll just use the Emanage with the injector harness only. Then just dump fuel at the redline. As for over spinning the blower I'm not sure. I just want more lol, always more!

Nealoc,

I have a question. How long do you burn the slicks? Whats your burnout steps?

I back up in the water, do a quick spin with the tranny preloaded (this inches me out of the water hole). Then I preload and do a burnout to the line. Usually the slicks grip before the line. I can't for the life of me hold the car and do a burnout in one spot.

Are the current slicks to small for me? or simply more practice is required?

Do you have a working ebrake? Maybe it needs adjustment if it's not holding the car.

I would roll through the water until the slicks were just outside of the box. Put the tranny in 2nd gear, rev the car up and dump the clutch. Smoke them for a bit, drop the e-brake, and ride it out.

Here's a video to check out.

Thanks Krazy!, I'm not sure about a 2nd gear dump though. Tranny is an oldy

No problem!
I wouldn't worry about the tranny. As long as the tires spin there won't be much of a load on the trans. The tires will spin easily if you roll though the water box.

Agreed, but sometimes the left wheel will not spin with a 1st gear burnout

Roll thru the water box, set the E-brake, spin 'em up and move your steering wheel back and forth. This sometimes gets both slicks spinning. Have someone eyeball your car and give you a thumbs-up if they both spin.

It depends what track I'm at. Different tracks have different water setups and require different procedures. Sometimes I do it actually in the water box, sometimes outside, just depends on the track setup. I always do a dry hop after completing the wet portion of the burnout. You can see the dry hop at the end of this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAA7dwNsy-U

I've never bothered with 2nd gear burnouts. I've done it once or twice but didn't notice any benefit. With my M&H slicks I like them really hot (as M&H recommends) so I like to burn them until I can smell smoke generally, unless the wind is blowing in such a way that makes this impossible. I don't know how long this takes exactly and I don't have any vids on this comp to watch and find out I don't think, but I'd guess probably 6-8 seconds. I turn the wheel back and forth - now that I have a Quaife they always both spin, but before I had a Quaife it was necessary to get them both spinning, I also believe it flexes the sidewalls a bit so that you get full contact patch coverage.

Can you hold your car in one spot while burning the M&H slicks?

Damn, the rear brakes can only be adjusted from the nut on the handbrake correct? I can't hold the car down when I do a burnout, this might be affecting my 60 foots as I'm not warming them up as much as they should be.

Use second gear and you won't need to burn them as long, because they will be spinning faster.

A proper burnout comes from wheel speed. That's why you see all the drag cars doing burnouts in top gear.

I just don't want to dump the clutch, it will shock the tranny. Unless I can preload the tranny then go but I wasn't sucessful in a 2nd gear burnout before...

Did you break the trans before, or did you just stall the car or something?

Didn't break it but the tranny does have 275k on it with a good 100+ track runs lol. I dumped the clutch on the car before as I was inexperianced and now that I preload it, it feels way cleaner and much easier on the parts. I know slicks are soft and will take a lot of the load but...

The time I tried doing the burnout in 2nd gear it just didnt feel right, hard to explain.

What do you rev at when dumping the clutch in 2nd gear? Also do you do it while in the water?

The video I posted is a 2nd gear burnout.
I rev the car to just before the redline and dump the clutch. The tires will spin, therefore putting very little load on the trans.

I roll to the edge of the box, you don't want to be in the water while doing the burnout.
