First time EVER running at the track. 1/8 Mile

So dyno yesterday, track today!

Been wanting to go for a while now finally went.

This was my first time ever running a car on the track. Very nervous and the first run i even had my window down not even thinking.

First run i didn't try to even take off, just a normal sprinted take off.

R/T 1.025
60' 2.214
1/8 8.870
MPH 84.53

Was very happy with the first run ever!

2ed run was crap, tried to launch a little and spun like crazy

R/T .846
60' 2.379
1/8 9.120
MPH 83.12

After that i tried to launch less and it just was not working out.

Next runs where bad, now im having a issue with my shifter. Going into 1 3 6 gear the shifter "moves" to far and i was not able to get into 3rd gear many times.

Ive took the cables loose from the trans and it still does this popping noise and the shifter stops then moves another inch or so forward. Not sure at all whats going on, its either the cables or shifter it self.

On the track i was going into 3rd, i thought i had broken the cable bracket that brakes a lot with people but that's not the case.

During one of those runs i had a 2.155 60 foot
and it felt like a GREAT run but i didn't get it into 3rd.

So for my first time ever, running a best of

2.155 60ft

1/8 8.870

mph 84.53

This was on street tires!

MOD LIST at time runs!

5.7 Gen Mod list:

- 75 mm Throttle body
- Composite intake manifold (first one SSIM'd)
- 52 mm intake ports on heads

- 09 stock cams
- 380 cc DW injectors
- ARP rodbolts

- Cattman genIII headers
- Cattman 3" catback
- Cattman genIII ypipe, w/3" test pipe
- Removed stock oil warmer
- 4" Intake Piping
- Velocity Stack
- 6" AEM Dryflow Filter

- Spec stage 3 clutch

Engine Management-

- VoltageDrop.net Plug and Play Haltech harness

So overall happy, could not ask for a better first time ever!

An 84 mph trap is around a 106-107 1/4 mile trap and 8.8 is around a 13.6-13.8.

I'm not familiar with 1/8 mile times...so I don't know how that compares to other modded Maximas with full bolt ons and tunes. From what you say its sounds good though. Now for the 1/4 mile!!!!!

Not sure whats going on with my shifter. In gears 1 3 5 , you can feel it go into gear, then if you push harder the whole shifter moves 1" more forward and pops. BUT the actual shifter mech on the trans does not move. So its def in the cable/ shifter.

Maybe ill post a video. Its very frustrating, the 2 -3 shift is already hard enough. This just makes it impossible to do fast.

you multiply the time by 1.55 to 1.57 and that will tell you what the car will run in the 1/4 mile time pretty accurately.

A 2.1 60 foot on your very first trip to the track is REALLY good!! Congratulations! Most people are so nervous that they come away with nothing but 2.3s, 2.4s, and some 2.5s!

An 8.87 is around a 13.8 1/4 mile time, which is very respectable. If you get some slicks and are able to do a 1.90, you should be running around 13.2 in the 1/4 mile then.

Lol what are you talking about?

Piedmont drag way is 15 min from my house. 1/8 mile.

Why in the world would i drive over a hour for those tracks at 1/8 mile? If ima make a trip anywhere itll be atleast 1/4 mile.

Ill be going to my local track more then any, mostly to get used to things and get better.

Thanks for letting me know how I was doing! We will see how it goes! Hopefully only better from here out!

Still having the shifter issues, im 99% sure its the cable! I cant go back until this is fixed!

Nice runs dude! Definitely some respectable #s for your first time out! I'm curious if you have the whole set of rays, with 18x8 in the front and 18x8.5 in the back?? I bet if you tested the rear wheels for front fitment, you could definitely grab more traction (if they fit) and significantly improve your times and just kill that 60'. I've got the same wheels and they are just amazing in all aspects. I've got goodyear eagle rs-1s on mine and dry weather traction is probably the best out. Iif they fit, try doing a few runs with the rear wheels up front if you feel like experimenting a little next time!!

I'm pretty happy with it, first time EVER running on the strip.

The car spins in 2ed quite a bit and 3rd a little. This is on street tires. While on the track it was easy to hear the tires spinning.

We know the car is fast, its all driver at this point.

Only bad thing is once i get used to things and ready for slicks itll be dead hot outside. So this summer will be just practice and more practice! Along with fixing issues that might come up, like this shifter cable situation.

The 8.5 are in front. the front tire is low on tread and not all that great. The usable rubber is pretty much gone, so i dont even drive the car in the rain because of this.

The Slicks will be the tire of choice. they are on 4th gen 15's

Darren how the heck do you do all this engine work and never run at the track prior? haha

Nice times! Now that your shifter linkage is fixed get back out there! Got any 1/4m tracks nearby?

haha well up untill the 09 swap my car was pretty stock. Even with stock manifolds, burning oil like crazy, i didn't see any reason to go to the track. The car would of been lucky to put down 220 whp. probably not even that really. I was running stock intake and all. Even stock exhaust.

The car is literally a whole different car now.

There are a few 1/4 mile tracks, but im not ready for them yet. Driving a few hours right now is not what im going to do just to practice. Once I get more track time at my local 1/8, get comfortable with the slicks, etc. Then ill drive out to the 1/4 and see what happens.
