Maxima Racing!

Ok im done with toyotas for now ive killed em all pretty decent well corollas and that celica "gt" it can almost match me though at 80 + cuz yeh my max just like goes so slow after that 80 mark(88 max auto) i think my max has about 160 HP, the engine is in excellent shape, i mean the car looks brand new, i gotta take some pics of it. I want to add performance mods but im getting a new car next year after i grad so all i put in was subs and an amp and interior stuff like the indgio titanium gauges. Im thinking about racing some CRXs sine thyere like evrywhere now for some reason.(can they beat an 88max? i have no idea what thyere HP is) But this one friend of mine has a mazda mr 2 or mx 4 something early 90s, but its red and hella fast plus its turbo or something ill find out when i go back to work. But ill let u guys know about what the next car i run into is.
DO u guys have any recent races or kill to talk about? I wanna hear what r car has taken on recently!

Re: Maxima Racing!

ok one more thing.. when i accelerate in my auto with my overdrive off i think, (when its pressed out whatever that is), and i power shift, my redline comes up to 6.5k rpms i belive or maybe 6 like fast maybe in 3 or 4 seconds. When im trying to get a good time or 0- 60 or quarter or even racing what is a good way to avoid that redline? Should i not accelrate so fast at first or what cu zi know my engine will #@!@ up if it hit that redline for awhile. Sorry for the long post but can u try to answer some of those Qs thanx

well i dont raelly race, but i'v tested out a few things on my max to see whats best if i ever did. i've only done the sound system and gauges like oyu cause i want a new car and the sound system can easily be removed.

i just start in drive, wwith overdrive off
brake torque (around 2500 to 3000)
gas it almost allt he way, and around 5000 rpms i release the gas a little bit and punch it again and repeat to get into third. i haven't tried it past that. what do u normally do?

whats brake torque ? ok heres me this whole week...at a red light if im first and the road is straight. I have an auto, its in 1st gear cuz my buddy told me id get a lil more power or better grip on the road, so when it turns green hit the gas all the way with overdrive off and once it hits 3k rpm goes into second, then shift the auto in Drive after 4k, i get mass speed that way. Plus using this, i awlays burn out before i start accelrating, i luv the sound.....

brake torquing is when you hold the brake down while pressing the gas down too. when the light turns green, release the brake, and gas it all the way. i dont like starting in 2 or whatever cause it takes too long for the gears to catch and i dont think it's really good for ur tranny.

Ok ive never tried that break technique ill use it when i go out today, does it help u accelrate faster? Oh and the 2nd gear thing, yeh i dont use second to much but is it cool to use 1st? I usually go form 1st to second gear in about 2 seconds then usually its only on 2nd gear for hmmmmm like not even half a second before it goes into drive thanx.

it gets u a better launch off the line so long as u dont burnt out too much. and personally, i just stay in d unless i'm driving in the rain and up or down really bad hills. there's too much room for a mess up and i dont wanna pay for a new tranny.

ok i do the power shift thing cuz it seems faster but ru for sure that its bad for ur tranny if u go from 1st to drive? Oh and i tried the torque method today... am i supposed to step on the break with left and gas with right at same time? thanx

hold down the brake with ur left foot all the way. rev ur engine to 2500 or 3000 or whatever (play around with it), when the light turns green, or whenever u wanna do it, let go of the brake and punch the gas all the way in. and i'm no mechanic or anything, but i think the 1 to drive thing can be harmful to ur car if ur doing it often and while ur racing ur engine.

Okay...this might just be me...but if you are driving an auto (correct?) and you are racing...which mean you are going to have the pedal mashed. If you start the shifter in 1st...and then you shift to drive...you aren't going to skip second gear. If you skip 2, the computer isn't just going to shift into 3rd. What you need to do, and I'm a newbie to Maxima Modding as well, is find out where your power peak is. If it's 4500 or 5000, it's really not going to do you any good drag out the gears past 5500 or even 6000 rpm.

I just noticed this thread is pretty old, so it probably doesn't matter what I think. Just though I'd throw my 2% of a dollar in there.

If you're driving an automatic, you don't need to manually shift the gears. That's why they call it an automatic. The only reason they have the 1st and 2nd gears is if there is a reason you need to keep it in that gear and don't want it to upshift. The car will upshift at the proper RPM's.

Hey, ummm, SMD, Why don't you look into autocrossing if you like to race? There's a forum for that on this board. It's as safe as you're going to get and legal (ie. no worry about tickets and skyrocketing insurance rates).
