How do you diagnose loose ball joints?

I get a cricking noise when I turn the wheel to the left or the right. I can also hear the noise if the car is turned off. Will the ball joints make this noise?

Sounds like it's your CV joints. I'd take it to a professional and have them diagnose the problem for you.

Yes, that sounds like your CV joints. The ball-joints usually don't make a noise like that...they just make the front end loose, and you'll usually get a lot of bump steer, etc...

If you're competent enough to work on the car, consider swapping the CV shafts...They're not that expensive anymore, and the labor will likely only take a weekend...at most - less if everything goes well.
