85 maxima (automatic transmission)
85 maxima (automatic transmission)
Traveling in the mountains and without warning while moving up steep
grade, something snapped and the car would no longer move forward. Actually it did nothing in any shifter position. I left engine running while in shifter in drive position and examined the axle (it was not moving). When shifter in park, the car did not move(assume the axle is not broken). Transmission fluid is fine. It feels as
though the engine and transmission are no longer connected. Any
suggestions?

Hmmm.. that's a tough call. There could be any number of things wrong.
It could be that you broke one of your CV joints. That would be my first guess anyway.
It's also possible that there could be something wrong with your transmission. One of the vacuum or linkage controls may have broken. It's also possible that the internal clutch or band broke as well. There's also a possiblity that your torque converter gave out.
Well, I'd check the CV joints first, that's what I think your problem is. Hopefully that's all it is, cause replacing a torque converter or rebuilding a transmission isn't cheap.
