arsonist: Are you talking about boosting your current car, and putting the 300zx Turbo auto ECU in or just running the 300zx Turbo auto ECU? If you try to run that ECU on an N/A motor, chances are your going to run really rich...which will make you loose power instead.

i was planing of geting a 300zx non turbo moter and then puting a turbo in it, i was planing of doing this cuz i whant to get the most boost out of the none turbo moter. cuzz im going to the junk yard on the 20 and if i dont find a good turbo motor i was going to get a non turbo moter and get the turbo charger, intacke manifuld, fule reil, and ecu from a f-up turbo moter and but in on the non turbo moter.
i was wondering if i do that will i get into any trubel doing that?

arsonist63086:If you can find a junkyard turbo engine get it. It's cheaper than making a N/A a turbo. Fix the engine, and turbo if needed and go from there.

maximase86:I want to get a T3/T4 hybrid with ceramic bearing. I found the place to mount it so I get the exhaust from both sides of the engine. Now must find a place to put the wastgate, custom make the down pipe needed.

Still debating on whether or not to get it intercooled. May just leave that for a future project.
Running it with 6psi will still put me back in my seat and allow me to tune.

I would say leave yourself a way to add it in the future. You should be okay at 6 psi. I'd start worrying once you get higher than 8 psi. I'm thinking of doing an intercooling setup similar to what you find on the WRX. Have intercooler near the top of the motor, or over the driver side with a small hood scoop to force air through the intercooler. But I'm also thinking of a FMIC too, but I don't want to ditch my A/C, it works great and I use it (even in the winter to defrost the windows). So I'm gonna have to think on how to make it work without it sticking out.

I'm thinking so too. The 84-86 Z31's that have em are square enough that it would go with our cars pretty well. But I'm still wondering on it. I'm also thinking AWIC, sort of like on the Cyclone/Typhoons, but that's going to be pretty spendy too.

HEY
I was researching some stuff for the turbo. I read about guys using the 93 pathfinder intake manifold. There seems to be an issue of clearence with the hood. So even if i could get it to fit would it be worth the effort?

There are 1-2 guys using the AWIC. Expect to spend over a grand to use this. I would rather use water/alcohol injetion

I got a quote for the down pipe from the nissan dealer they said about 140$. Im not sure 140 for something that I'll probably have to modify neWays.
I should just get the front exhaust manifold first.

Is there a way to get the 02 sensor hole in the manifold to fit a wastegate? Since the new one will be after the turbo I just thought why plug it up.

One more thing:been looking at the MAF from JWT will that work for our cars(at all,with/without there ECU)?

Don't go to the dealer. I mean...unless you want to needlessly waste your money, you can get decent used parts, or brand new parts through other ventors.

Anybody in Canada want to buy the Turbo Maxima project car? I am seriously looking to unload EVERYTHING I have for this. If anyone is interested, email me at igauaga@telusplanet.net. :-)

I mention Canada as that makes it easier for someone to get the car. If anyone from the US wants to make a deal, we can work something out like either you come get the car, get it shipped or something like that.

how come we just cant slap a turbo on the engine we have already
im thinking of slaping a custom supercharger to it it cant be that hard just need to wrap the pulleys around it and connect a few cables i think that the tirbo would be easy also if i saw the setup i could mock up something verry easily not that im saying that ppl are slow but i just think that way mechanical things come verry easily to me.

There is much more to boosting than just simply slapping in a turbo or an S/C. And if you don't understand what a turbo or s/c does....you shouldn't try to stick it in your car. :P

i like that this was brought back from the dead. *snorts*

so far people just get the 300zx parts and throw them in. or you have swapping an engine.

my plan?

just make a custom kit for the maxima.. haven't deceided whether it be a fmic or tmic (like on wrx's or such). Both would need body parts modified most likely.

the turbo? it being a 3.0l and I only plan on going to 14psi, t3/t4 hybrids, or looking at 13b or such mitsubishi turbos.

We'll see how it goes. Right now i'm doing a complete custom interior.

p.s.: if anyone says it'll be easier to swap an engine. Don't. I've turbo'd many vehicles in my past.

eg.
88 240sx-turbo
93 3000gt vr-4 (just upgraded/rebuilt everything)
89 Escort GT-turbo
95 Neon-turbo
95 Mustang S/C
93 Jimmy-Turbo

well ive been looking at intercoolers at other cars from the junkyard such as:

talon/eclipse
thunderbird turbo coupe
saab 900 turbo
audi (dont remember)
turbo escort GT

and the one that looks like it would work the most would be the the saab with the 300zx hood scoop like the setup i had would look killer with a intercooler under it, even so the hood scoop from a 200sx turbo with the opening opened up would prolly look cool as well.

i have a kit on stand by at the local junkyard kit includes

a couple of intercoolers
84 300zx turbo (T3 i think)
300xz turbo exaust manifold
volvo turbo piping
300zx turbo injectors
300zx turbo MAF
300zx turbo ECU
volvo boost gague
volvo BOV from a 740 like a 88 (dont kno what it is rated at tho) Does ne one kno??
all of this is gonna cost about 250-300 bones unless i get it on a 50% off sale i missed the last one but ill forshure get the next one.

just gotta make those custom motormounts or buy them from KALSC if hel make them for me, "hint hint", other than that ill need a 85-88 maxima 5 speed in the southern cali area and ill be good to go

Guess I'm kinda lucky as my 88 legran come with a turbo stock
I'm from downunder .and only recently bought one ,its definatly grown on me drive it all the time now
the engine is a VG20ET 2L V6 Turbo, pretty quick stock even with a messy looking intake setup .Runs through a 4 speed auto
You could look at getting this engine from Japan might save a bit of work
looks about the same size as the 3L
hope I can find out more info on your site as there is bugger all down here in Australlia thanks Dave

4. I did a complete clutch job, you may not

What I will be doing is a complete breakdown on the website I put up insofar as costs involved so people can discern for themsleves the different cost levels.

As for horsepower, no idea. I do know that it's impressive. At some point when I get the tuning done, I will probably have the car dynoed and then I can let you know HP at the wheels.

Food for thought, I am in the process of making up a bunch of the parts needed for this kind of swap. Parts like: turbo dump so it matches up to stock flex pipe and clears starter, custom mount to mount first or second turbo at exhaust crossover. I am also installing a blowoff vlave this weekend. Those too and the fitting for it will be available, specific for this install. The blowoff valves are sweet, pics coming soon. Also, the custom motor mount needed. The one I made up is working out great so far.

Anyway, I will make some stuff available to those who are interested in getting the oddball parts together to do this swap.

Anyway, I'll keep you guys posted on everything and my website will be getting a healthy update pretty soon.

Cheers!

i need those motor mount ant exaust downpipe if avaliable pm me with a quote

The pinout on the turbo ecu is slightly different, while it might work, you are going to have problems unless you change the pinout or the harness.

it wont fit because the 3000zx trannys are totally different (longitudal instead of compact) so just use the regular max stuff upgraded look on e-bay and youll find some stage 2 clutches
