Engine splash shield

The splash shield that mounts below my egine - 1988 Maxima - is hanging down (since I ran over a LARGE remnant of a transport tire). Is it an extremely important piece of plastic? Should I attempt to piece it back together, or can I just pull the rest of it off?

Thanks.

I have the same problem with mine, those damn things are junk. Unfortunately, they are necessary. Every time I hit a deep puddle, water gets on the belts and makes them squeek and when it hits the manifold it makes my car smoke like it's going up in flames. Definitely not cool.

I haven't had a chance to fix it because of the snow, but once spring breaks I'm going to do it. I tried putting in a screw last time it broke, but it obviously didn't work to well. I may just duct tape the thing to the car this time around.

Some time ago...

there was a question about this by someone else. I replied that I have polycarbonate sheets in .0625 thickness. I will sell pieces in the basic shape you need cheap, if you give me the dimensions. More questions you can write to me: lang407@juno.com

Thanks John, but I still have my splash shield and it's still intact. The problem is that Nissan used some cheap A$$ plastic fasteners to hold the splash shields on the car, instead of using bolts or screws. I just need to find a way to keep them fastened to the bottom of the car.

What I did with mine was found some bolts that fit the mounting holes, and put large washers on with them to help lock it in place. The holes on my splash pans are broken through on the on some. Seems to work well.
