I just pulled down 25.44mpg in my 84. anyone with similar or better mpg's? early cars of course. looking for possible areas of improvement. This is the work machine so it needs good mpg's. The fast car doesnt need similar mileage since I dont drive it much.

new injector (1), new thermostat and new O2 worked wonders. 1st 2 days I had the car I got about 15mpgs. still cannot beat the old work car, metro 42.5 mpg's averaging 70!!!

Well, I haven't calculated mpg on my Maxima yet. My 2.8L straight six in my 280zx 2+2 got 23.5 mpg on the last tank of gas. This is currently my commuter car.

I usually do in town short trips, and long idles...so my mileage is down at between 16-18 mpg. If I was doing freeway trips, and not driving like a bat outta hell, I would probably average about 25-28mpg. My best mpg was 29.5 mpg when I went on my trip to eastern washington. This was in my 86 5-speed.

I'm still looking for some mpgs for my wed->friday mileage run. maybe a new set of wires since these are originals from 84. I should be able to break 26mpg at least. I do almost all freeway with a little stop and go.

I know of one car that can beat the metro. My uncle has a 1982 Volkswagen Dasher Diesel wagon...in town he get 35mpg, on highway he get 49mpg. LOL

those dang diesels pull down the mileage. even current diesel VW's like the TDI's pull down some good mileage. of course you trade of acceleration for mileage but as if my metro was fast.

then theres gas/electric, but then this is the work car. its not worth the high price of gas electric.
