Problems with my Maxima
Problems with my Maxima
I am having a couple of problems....tell me if you know what I could do...
1) My car is sagging in the back passenger side. I think it might have to do with the shocks.
2) My muffler is deteriorating quickly.
3) My antenna is not working.
4) My radio is not working well.
5) The wipers are not sounding or working well...they have new blades.
Please Help.
By the Way - As you know, I have an '86, and it has only 72,000 miles!! Wow.

1.) Get new struts. KYB's are the best option for the 2nd gen Maxima.
2.) Get a new muffler or get a catback exhaust system. I've got a Pacesetter catback exhaust on my car, it sounds great - it has a nice, throaty growl to it. It also looks good too, it's got coated mandrel bent piping, and two chrome, decent size tips on the muffler. Pacesetter is the only company that makes a catback system, though you could get one custom made.
3.) Replace your antenna. You can get a used one from a junkyard or you could get a new replacement from an auto store like Pep Boys. They do sell power replacements, though the standard masts are cheaper.
4.) Get a new, aftermarket head unit. My personal preference is Pioneer, they have good, clean Mosfet power and a lot of features. The interface is usually complicated though and the buttons are kind of small. Also, they sell double din ones that will fill the entire gap, though they are pricey. Check ebay, I've seem them on there for about 50% off of MSRP.
5.) Could be your blades, especially if they are the silicone ones. The natural ones are usually quieter, but they don't last as long. I doubt your wiper motors are going, I've got 125K on my Maxima and haven't had a problem with them.

About the wiper motor...i just got a new one around 5k miles ago, the other one burnt out during the winter, since I live in Massachusetts, we have cold winters. It was a rebuilt motor, and i think it might have to be rebuilt again.
The car sat a lot before I got my licence in February. That is why it only has 72k miles. It is my mother's car, and she drives a school van during the day. So she never got around to driving it. Beautiful car though, in good shape, except for a tiny dent next to the trunk, but that is like 5 years old. Very tiny instances of rust on the body. Cool.
