Motor Mounts?
Motor Mounts?
Has anyone in here ever had to replace their motor mounts?
I just had the CV Joints on the '87 replaced and the guy said he couldn't warranty the work because all (how many are there?) of my motor mounts were broken and the engine was putting undue stress on the CV joints.
What do you guys think?
TIA

Word of caution, those mounts are expensive, and there are four of them...2 on either side of the engine, and 2 on either side of the tranny.
If you prefer to buy your own parts for a shop to install, try here:

And good luck...if they are busted, you need to get the fixed...if they completely collapse, you'll risk doing a lot of damage to both the engine and the trans...much more expensive than replacing them.
Re: Re: Motor Mounts?
Speaking of mounts, my front engine mount is arriving today, so I will probably be working on that....have to find something to jack the motor up with though.

It is possible. FWD cars are hard on the mounts, and our cars are notorious for eating them. As ar as replacement, any competent shop can do it. It's a little more complicated, in my opinion, than doing the CV-half-shifts, so if you didn't feel comfortable doing this repair, I'd recommend having a shop do the mounts, as well.

Thanks for the help guys. I took a look at the link that was provided and I don't know which parts I would need. The car is an automatic and let's assume the technician was right and all of the mounts are broken. I'm trying to get an idea of what the parts and labor cost would be.
Thanks again.

I was working on my engine mount today, I was able to get the bolts to the crossmember out, but I couldn't take out the bolts holding the mount to the motor. I spent 2 hours mucking with it to no progress. So I'm taking it to my buddy's shop and having him install it.
