Rotor comes off distributor shaft

.....and it's becoming a REALLY big annoyance! I can't make a 5-minute trip anywhere without it happening and I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem or what can be done about it. I've never had this happen with this car before but all of a sudden 3 days ago it just started happening over and over again. every 10-15 minutes of driving this would happen and the car would sputter and jerk and make a metallic grinding noise, then just stall

what happens is the screw holding the rotor to the distributor shaft actually backs itself out. when the screw comes completely out, obviously, the spark isn't sent to the cylinders. I've put the screw in there tight but I don't want to over-tighten it because I don't want to strip the threads in the distributor shaft. then I'm REALLY screwed. actually....UNscrewed. I'm thinking something like loctite on the threads will solve this, but I also want to be able to remove the screw to replace the rotor, come tune-up time. is this a good idea?

Aren't you the one that needs a new timing belt? My guess is that the jump in timing is causing it to happen. You really need to take your car to the shop, like a.s.a.p. If not, I have a feeling your engine is going be toast within the next few weeks if you keep running it like that.

It's gonna hafta sit until funds are sufficient then, if the timing belt is causing the problem. killing that engine is the last thing I need.

well yeah then, the car's gonna hafta sit somewhere, or be sold as-is, needing a timing belt. right now I got more important things to worry about and spend my money on, like finding a place to live. as of the end of this month I don't have one. this paycheck and the one after it are already spoken for in bills, rent, etc. the one after that (a month from now) has either got to go towards the timing belt or a place to live. either one or the other, cos in a month it sounds like I won't have both. either get a place to live and have a car with a wasted engine, or have a running car and no place to live. having to make this decision sucks.
