Anybody have a ac idler pulley for an 84 they want to sell? Mine froze up and the dealer is freaking crazy.

Your best bet maybe a local junkyard. They'd be the cheapest way to go.

I know it, I'm going to look tomorrow. It sucks though since I wont be ablt to use my ac until I find a pulley.

I could just drive a different car I guess but I'm lazy. The max has all the options I want in my daily/work car.

Idler pulley, the compressor is just fine. the idler pulley is the pulley you adjust to take up slack in the belt. The bearing in it has frozen sold.

I checked the junkyard already and got a tip on a bearing place I should be able to get a bearing from. Even though the dealership claims it cannot be replaced. The bearing is held in with a C clip so a simple bearing swap and maybe some shims should work fine.

Oh actually the ac was still working, but I was just waiting for that belt to start smoking going over that frozen pulley, so I pulled the belt.

uhh....is your car running....is the battery dead...isnt the belt that goes arround the ac also the one that goes arround the alternator?

i have a dead AC compressor from my '87 but the pully spins just fine...everything else is screwed up...if i knew how to get it off i would and ship mabe...that is if they are the same

the belt routing is very likely different, but you'll want to check the pulley for size, or even check nissan, and see oif the part #'s match...

no, no 84 and older has a different belt routing. remember these are rear wheel drive cars. there are 3 belts, 1 for alt. 1 for ps and 1 for ac. these are the classic V belts where as the 85 and up have a rib belt that is about twice as thick.

I looked at an 85-86 yesterday and its a definate no, no. The car runs just fine and if I pirated the pulley from the ps system I could run the ac but no ps. Tried it, the effort wasnt extremely high, but I'm a big guy. Or I could leave the seized pulley on until the belt smokes but then I would run the rick when the belt broke that it would take out 1 of the other belts as well.
