Don't forget to charge the battery too. That helps with lights and other electrical stuff...

what I mean is that I want to make sure the positive is on the left and negative on the right (as if you were sitting inside the car!)

Oh, of course! I totally understood. Make sure the connections are clean and that the cables are in good shape too. I was just saying that if the battery is not charged first, your car won't start.

so what cables are what? I'll tell u my problem...my battery just smokes when I turn the ignition.

eh....you got problems....

First, replace the battery, it its smoking, the fluid level is probably so low that the moment you apply power to the battery, it goes up in smoke.

Second, its easy to tell which cable is what. All you need to do is trace the ground cable from the grounding post on the engine next to the front bank exhuast manifold, trace it back and you got the ground cable, the other one would be the "no brainer" positive cable.

i wanna see pics of this...for one your stat thingy says you have a Yellow "GLE" (GXE mabe, probally?)

and i have never seen a battery smoke...it sounds like fun

Its would be GL actually, now such thing as a GLE or GXE in 85. Though I would however like to see this, being that yellow wasn't a factory color. :P
