Electrical problem found...
The ECU idea was not sitting well with me. I kept feeling it was
something much simpler, and right under my nose, to boot. So, I got
home from work last night, and popped the hood. Decided to check all
the fuses and fusible links one more time. I take the cover off of
the fuse block under the hood, next to the battery. There are four
links in here, two basic cartridges, on 20amp link cart, and a gray
30amp link cart, that has a fiberglass sleeve over the wire. During
the previous checks, I just glanced at them, and this last, gray link
looked fine, as the sleeve looked good. This time, for whatever
reason, I decided to feel it, and see how it checked out. When I
squeezed at the top of the loop, it felt WAY too soft, and a little,
crunchy would be the best description. So, I pull very lightly on
the sleeve, and it slides cleanly off of both ends of the burned
link. This is the link that connects the alternator, and the main
power, for most components, including everythign on the interior, and
most of the sensors on the engine.
I am replacing the link today, and will let know all know how it came
out...

and go figure, the one fusable link i need is a dealer only item...so instead of like $5, I'm looking at like $15...and the only two wrecking yards in town that have any max's or 300ZX's (should have the same link), one's engine compartment was burned, and all the others have had the engine bays stripped already....
ARGH! Oh well, still a lot cheaper than a new ECU...
