"whering" noise

when I rev the motor on my 87 SE five speed, it makes a whiring noise...kinda a squeeling noise....I looked at the volts on my altanator and they stayed constent around 14....so what is this?...something with the belts?

When was your timging belt last changed? Could be your driver belts getting weaker.

I have no clue when the timing belt was last changed...the I have only had the car for a few days, and the guy I bought it from did not have it for very long...but I know in my camry, when the timing belt broke there was no squeeling noise before hand. And when my car is just idling it whines a little bit, I am guess it is a belt but I dont know which one...I am just trying to get all of the bugs worked out right now...thanks for any advice.

The squeeling noise maybe your accessory belts, idler pulleys, or alternator. It may not be anything to worry about, but if it gets worst, you may wanna keep an eye on it.

ok, just got back in from driving again, and I paid more attention to the noise and the alt. volts...and when it squeels, the volts do drop down to about 12...I am guessing that is the problem?

Probably have a loose accessory belt, or the one you have needs replacing.
