BMW Headlights and heater question

I am thinking about putting in BMW headlamps. I would appreciate links to step by step instructions for installation. I would have searced but search function turned off, and there was also a sticky of helpful 3rd generation links, but can't find that either.

Yesterday (when I went to Fairbanks from Anchorage) I found out that the digital climate control in our Max's does not register temperatures below -22 degress. It was showing -22 when actual outside temp was -40. Gotta love Alaska!

It seemed as if the heater was not operating optimally in -40 degrees. Someone told me that I need a bigger thermostat. Is this true? If so where exactly is the thermostat located. At temperatures up to -10 the heater worked ALRIGHT but below that it was not working that good. Also when the recirculate button is pressed the windshield fogged up and when the front defogger was turned on, the air got cold after bouncing from windshield, although it did a good job of defogging.
Help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

When I visited Alaska, I noticed that everyone had almost completely blocked the airflow to their radiator by putting carboard or some better flat piece of material in front. That chilly air will cool the water temp in a flash. The fan pulling a small amount of air behind is plenty. But yes, a hotter thermostat not a larger one is good. run a 190 or 192 degree thermostat. You may be running that already. The other common temp range is the 180 deg thermostat. It will also be better for your engine to run at the proper temp. Somewhere between 180 and 190. What you are probably experiencing is overcooling and the water that goes through your heater core is barely 60 deg or so!

HEY, I drive my car with a carboard on the radiator. I completely removed the ac system since it was bad, then more air gets in there. It overcools. When It was auto it was horrible...It would not shift into overdrive. So then this magic cardboard came alog and wala! Winter was extended this year all the way trought feb and early march. My cardboard helped me alot. :P Then I even made my fans to be controlled by switch so when it reaches half way I turn them an and its stays cool. I replaced my thermostat like 3 times. So im guessing it was not the thermostat.
