Timing belt...

Welp, to prevent any further downtime, once I have new shoes on the hooves, i'm gonna have a shop do the timing belt, rather than risk more excessive time off the road.

I checked with several local shops, and these were the two best bets, as far as quality of work...

Shop 1 : $875 + parts, to do the belt, tensioners, seals, belts, hoses, etc...

Shop 2 : $397 + tax for EVERYTHING...

And, when callign around, I'd intentionally leave out some pf the parts I wanted to see if they'd mention anything...the only shop that did was Shop #2 above. I left out the tensioner, and he suggested I have that done as well, while he's in there...AND all parts are Nissan...and this is an Import shop, Shop #1 isn't...

This blew my mind, as from my past experiences, import shops tend to be considerably more expensive...

Guess where I'm taking it...

Wow, shop 2 sounds like its a good deal. I'm thinking of bring my car in for a timing belt. It's got close to 200k on it, and I was suppose to change the belt almost 20k ago...yes I'm driving on borrowed time....

i basically am too...the guy i bought the car from owned an import repair shop, and specialize in Nissan's and Toyota's. He told me the belt had been changed within that year, but couldn't remember the milage. The car is appraching the 245k mile marker, so i figure since that's on one of the markers for the 60k interval, go ahead and have it done now, before it decided to break and leaves me without an engine.

the timing belt is squeaking? You sure it's not something else in the engine bay? I remember having a squeaking noise, and I though it was timing belt related, and it turned out to be my radiator support, which I need to figure out how to resecure.
