Curing a Rough Idle Problem
Curing a Rough Idle Problem
My 1986 Maxi accellerates just fine but lately has had a rough idle. Problem seems to be the most noticeable during the warm-up cycle, and is very smooth when dead cold. Does anyone know where the coolant temparature sensor is located on this engine? Also, are there any temperature sensors on the head or elsewhere on this car that may be sending the wrong signal to the computer?
4 temp sensors all together. 2 are on the radiator for the fans. One is on the piping that the upper radiator hose goes to for the gauge, and there his a Cylinder Head Temp Sensor that is very near the thermostat. Has your car thrown codes? I almost want to say your AAV might be the problem....but can't say for sure.

actually, isn't the sending unit for the temperature gauge located on the back of the intake manifold?
it doesn't really matter either way though, as this is strictly for the temperature gauge and shouldn't affect engine performance. maxima86se is right though, there is a cylinder head temp sensor on the left-hand side of the engine, near the water pump and thermostat. it's the only thing on that side of the engine that has a wiring harness running to it, I believe. I've never had a problem with mine, but I hear that they can cause problems like yours, and that they're a b...h to get to. you may even have to take off the upper timing belt cover.
