I've been posting questions about fuel economy for a couple of weeks. The only really good advise is to not drive my car but I have to. So here's what happened. I got a 2.25" exhaust and high-flow cat put on. Now when the guy put on the new exhaust he didn't put on the O2 sensor. So now my car runs rich, this can be very very bad for everything. The only real damage is to my wallet, and bumper(I'll take some pics for yah). Ive been trying new spark plugs and wires. That's helped the idle but know its getting worse, and the car still guzzles gas. So what im thinking is to have the O2 put into my new exhaust system. Do you guys think that will work?
Should the shop that I went to have done this automatically or should I have specified what he was to keep and toss?
Should the shop that did this have to do this for free?

hahahahha agreed

but to answer your question about the O2 sensor yes, you really need it or your car will go to its default settings and yes it will run rich in order to protect the motor since it is not getting an accurate reading of the outside conditions....also what kinda mileage are you getting? I feel like I am getting poor mileage but I dont know what the average is.

Quote: hehe drjmaxx.. you really are a frickin retard.

i knew that old '85 beater POS wasn't worth sh-t you idiot. i figured since some of you are stupid enough to destroy your own car by drivin with sensors missing, and some of you are so damn stupid that you are barely literate, while others of you toil away, fixing up old pieces of sh-t, well christ almighty, there's gotta be one of you frickin' idiots that would think they were getting the best damn car in the world for a great price!!!

get with the program you moron. you'll be slumming around in your old beater for the rest of your life, flippin burgers at mickey d's, and going home to the trailer park to pork your fat, ugly, skank wife.... lol lol lol

btw.. just keep drivin your car with no o2 sensor. i'm looking forward to seeing you bawl your eyes out on here after you realize how much of a moron that you were and after you see how much damage you did to your car, especially that new exhaust of yours....
Seriously, you need to chill out on attacking everyone here, we all like the cars we have and want to keep them in the best condition possible…this is where we go for help. You have been like the ‘mad rapper’ on here ever since you posted your F/S add.

Hey Deacon, do you really have nothing better to do than post a bunch of crap? The F**king moron here is you. Not everyone is an expert mechanic here, which is why there are questions. That doesn't make someone an idiot. Drjmaxx stated quite clearly that the shop that did his new exhaust didn't put the o2 sensor into the pipe. If he didn't realize that until now, that's not his fault, the shop should've known better.

The o2 sensor will make or break how your car runs. Nothing else you do to it will fix this. Your ecu is running in failsafe mode right now without it, and has no clue how much fuel to feed the engine. It will only foul your plugs up, cause poor mileage, and poor performance. I can't beleive a shop would overlook something that important, I'd take it back to them and get them to weld on the fitting for it asap. I'm positive you will get your gas mileage back.

Mr. Frost, it must be nice to be omnipotent, unlike us regular mortals. May we humbly bow down at your scaly, smoldering hooves, and beg forgiveness. I, like most of us here, like our older cars. I personally like having a car that I can work on, and like having a resource, such as this board, to refer to for help when I need it, and to provide help when I can. You're right, I'm not made of money, but I can tell you that even if I was making enough to afford the payments on a new car, I would still have better things to spend it on - namely, my kids. My car may be old, and need work, but it's mine, paid for in full. There are no payments on it, other than insurance, which, coincidentally, is also a lot less than what you have to pay to enjoy a new car.

I grew up in a household where the value of a vehicle did not have anything to do with it's age. My father was a mechanic - auto, diesel, aircraft, etc... - for over 50 years before retiring. I grew up in this type of household. To me, it is worth more to fix the cars problems, and keep it on the road, than it is to just trade it in on a new one, to avoid an oil-change or tune-up.

The guys here are a good group of guys, and we help each other when we're able. This may be an alien concept for someone so obviously socially inept as you are. We may be from different regions of the country, and many of us may never meet face-to-face, but we are a group of friends who know we can rely on each other.

Therefore, I speak for the group when I say that you need to pull your head out of your ****, grow the *** up, and get the h3ll out of Dodge. You are not welcome within our iNet family.

you may be expressing your right of Free Speach...and we support that...but we can also express our own right of Free Speach, and tell you to get out, and spread your poison elsewhere, you insignificant reject. You are not merely ignorant in the ways of common sense and friendly relations, you are a complete idiot...you will likely never learn.

Until you learn to actually be helpful, and can give constructive criticism - and not insult those who may have the answer for a question you have some day - I suggest you leave.

I have been as polite as possible through this. You can say what you want about me...I am secure in the fact that I am right, and that I'm on a higher level than you will ever be, simply by being a good friend to those here who need it.

[QUOTE=deacon frost]heh heh heh... this is some seriously funny sh-t...

well... i guess you gotta keep on believin in your old minimas and hearses... as long as you keep the faith and you keep on believin your car is going to be the best thing on the road... that'll pretty much keep you from realizing your life is truly worth sh_t and it'll keep you from eating a bullet...

society really has given some of you the shaft... BIG TIME.... i personally would be pretty ****ed off about it... i'd do something about it... something other than trying to make-do with an old beater.... glamorizing the POS in my head.... deluding myself into thinking it's so great... befriending other people in my predicament so we can all delude ourselves... while other people really are driving nice cars... living the good life.... face it guys... you got screwed... and the people who screwed you over are reveling in the fact that you actually don't mind being the slaves of society! and it's not just about cars.... if you can't afford a nice car... you pretty much can't afford anything.... you live off of welfare... slave away for your masters at petty, low-life jobs... struggle to pay the bills on your trailer....

I love that attitude...
Thats exactly why Im going to turbocharge my car. So I can smoke any punk in his little ricer mobile. The kind of guy like frost, who thinks speed only comes in an expensive car that only losers(like frost)can afford(or they're mommy bought them). Hey loser any fool can open there wallet, it takes a real man/woman to build their car from mediocrity to something that flys.
Keep talkin man its only gonna make my victory even sweeter!

Keep on living in your little dream world where you think money is your security. Things change and money dosen't mean happiness. It could all be gone in an instant. Then all you'll have is your charming personality. I mean my god how low is your self esteem that you goto a site just to talk about how your car is better than ours, and how much money you make. YOURE pathetic!

Yo, sh1thead, show me ANYWHERE in my fuking post that I said these would be the best cars ever! Yes, some of our cars probably ARE POS's, but we take pride in knowing that first off, we can work on our own car, and not have to spend a bloody fortune at a repair shop. There is also the pride in fixing something yourself - something you would not know anything about...

you really need an enema performed between your dam ears, to clean all that **** out that you claim to be brains.

if yo're entire life is based upon your owning a new car, or the possessions you own, you, my diksucking lil minion, are the one with a shallow existance. you're the type who joins a frat in college, just so you can have friends. It's just something else your money can buy...but try relying on those friends you paid for when you're in a real bind, and you will find yourself flat on your face.

i took a paycut from a $55k a yr job to a job that only provides me with about $23k a year - by choice...why, because the money didn't make me happy...the posessions didn't make me happy...knowing my family was safe, that my wife's medical issues could be properly taken care, and being close to my dad were the reasons.

I would be happy living in a cardboard box, living out of dumpsters, and so forth, as long as I had my family, and we were healthy.

God forbid I EVER reach a point in my life where my financial worth dictates my life's worth - for then I have truely lost, and would gladly take a bullet in the mouth.

You should take you're own advice. Only someone who has severe self-image problems, and other such abnormalities, could ever find solace in the kind of car they drive.

My "Minima" as you call it, is the nicest car I've ever owned, and I've owned several. It's not the best, by any means...it's not the fastest...it's just right for me. The car, and all of it's rough edges, fits me to a 'T'. I am not perfect, by any means, and it's fitting for me to have a car that is the same. I do not need to have a new car to compensate for my lack of manhood.

For you to be so hung up on your car, and your posessions, you must be a dam eunich or something...did you lose your d1ck by biting down too hard, bent over to blow yourself, you lil pr1ck? Your mommy walk in on you, deepthraoting yourself, and you bite it offf in surprise? Or are you simply hung like a 2yr old?

If none of this is the case, and you actually are a well adjusted human, then drop your ****, and act like a part of the community.

i probobly shouldn't be doin this...
but.. deacon frost believe us if we had the money, we all would love a new max... but guess what, im a high school student and a $300+ a month car payment isn't going to sit very well with my 16 hour avg part time job. so until then i think i'll stick with my good ole 1987 nissan maxima with more standard features than a 75% of the new cars out there... and you never forget the look on the other racers face after the square brown maxima from the eighties rapes the hell outa them
and with only 138 on the clock i barely have any maintenance, just the brakes, tires, and oil change.
maybe you should've realized first before you started talkin **** about our old cars esp in front of hundreds of members that love these things well enough to get on this site more than once a day and talk about how much they love them.... seriously thanks for the slap in the face

yes, i resorted to flames...because that is all you and the **** you're talking is worth.

being a big man from the NE, with so much money at his disposal, a trip to vist those of us who reject your theories would be an easy job...

hell, i wouldn't be surprised to have some little, pimply faced 17 yr old, rich kid...who I could have so much fun with....

and for the record, you mental midget, my wife suffers from Grand Mal Epilepsy, and severe allergies, which cause asthma attacks that could kill her.

you know, there is something seriously wrong when some little snot smear like you comes in bad-mouthing everyone like you are. only a true social moron would do so...how does it feel to be gang raped, jerk off? when you decide to *** with one of us 2nd genners, you *** with us all...

hell, if you even own a damn maxima at all would be damn miracle. the only people out there who should want so desperately for us to trade our cars in would be either a diurect Honda rep, or a Nissan rep, to earn more cash...but then again, what would be a better seller for a brand than seeing it's flagship model regularly exceed 200k+ miles, with little to no problems?

You are the truely pathetic, who cannot even open your eyes wide enough to see the world in front of you...you MUST live either in a cave, or in your beloved 2001 SE...

I'll even make you a good deal...you come down, and I have an even older beater that i'll run against ya...and it's another "hearse"...it's an 84 pontiac full-size wagon...it has almost 300k on the clock, and I can promise that it'll eat you for lunch...a 500 HP big block will do that...

Wow, everyone one has been a little busy today I see. Of course it's all because of one person. Either way, in my opinion, Deacon is not worth any of our time.

Deacon, do you have something to prove here? All you've done is flame at everyone in this forum, then try to sell a car, got ****ed because you won't get what your asking for it, and flaming people more? For a guy that claims to know more than most of us, being on other forums for so long, and being the elitest you think you are, it sure doesn't look like it. What do you want us to do, kiss your a$$ and call you god because you are better? Want us to envy you because you spend $30,000 dollars on a 5th gen? Want us to put our tails between our legs and go wimpering everytime we ask a question that is not of your approval?

So just because we drive 1st and 2nd gens, it makes us "lower life" to you huh? How are you to know whether if some of us are guys that already have a nice car, a nice house, make a lot of money, and choose to drive a 1st and/or 2nd gen around so not to gloat about what they have? How are you to know if some of us have our cars because of sentimental value of some sort?

BTW, where do you learn that you have to have the newest car, the biggest and best things ever to enjoy life? The reason I ask is because living like that is just stupid. Life is so much more than having a material things. There is a very close friend of my family. When he was fresh out of college, he purchased a home. He started renting it out. Slowly he started buying more and more properties. Soon he had well over 15 properties in the Seattle area. Renting them all out. He soon started investing the money he was making from his properties. Keep in mind all 15 of these properties he owns. He has no other job other than just maintaining all 15 of these houses. Well he now worth over 2 million dollars. Even though he has this money, he lives his life like he only makes about high 20k to 30k a year. He was driving a beat up 75 Datsun pickup for well over 10 years, and just recently bought a used suburu forrester. I've asked him many times, why doesn't he get a better car, or a giant house, or boat. You know what his answer is? Because he doesn't need it. He enjoys what he has, but what mean more to him, he has something for his children to enjoy, and his children's children, and so on. He doesn't need fancy things to be happy in life.

What have we all here done so wrong to you, for you to come here and flame us like no tommorrow? If it's because we drive 1st and 2nd gen's, then why even waste your time? Why bother?

Lastly, thinking your car is better than everyone's and betting that it will decimate everyone and betting for pink slips is childish and stupid. Talking the **** you do, espeically to a moderator that you don't happen to even know is just stupid. I'm betting your car is stock because you got so much money wrapped up in it making payments. The moderator you bet against I know personally. I've seen his car, and I know what it can do. Not only does his car dyno higher than a stock 5th gen does, he can probably beat you without breaking a sweat. The big problem is, your not worth his time, your not worth any of our time. You think your better than us fine, just remember the guy talking the most shlt is usually the one eating shlt afterwards.

In case anyone is still interested in the intial thread. From the cat back my car didn't have an O2 sensor to begin with. (whoops) But the one in the Exhaust manifold sucked so I put the new one in there.
Now the problem is the vaccum hose that hooks up to the EGR valve is at a constant vaccum. The TPS is working correctly so somewhere between the harness to the TPS and the EGR control valve solenoid there is a problem. Anyone else ever have this problem?

Sounds like the EGR valve solenoid is bad. If you follow the hose back, it'll take you right to the solenoid. What I would do is unplug it for the time being so you won't get such a crappy idle and plug the hose with a small screw that fits the hole. I would test out the solenoid and replace if neccessary.

S

BTW, the EGR solenoid is one of the 2 solenoids mounted next to the AIV.

The mechanic tested the electrical(to the solenoid) lines in front of me. They both had juice. So now I'm thinking it maybe the wiring of the TPS connector. I don't know, I think its going to take some time with the haynes and chilton.
Anymore suggestions keep them coming.

So here's what I finally did. I was having a major brain fart, and couldn't figure how to reset the ECU(unplug the battery for 15 min).
Then I realized duh!
So now I'm driving a lot to see if my gas mileage is back. I'll have more tommorrow.

Don't you know you're supposed to put a cover sheet on your TPS connector?

Didn't you get the memo?

Yeah, this Deacon guy is quite interesting. He came over to the 2nd gen group on yahoo and started flaming everyone there too. Guy has definately got some emotional issues.
