Hey guys..
I have an 87 maxima GXE...
im having problems removing my front seats. i've got both bolts out in the front and one off in the rear, but i cannot find where the seat is anchored on the rear on the center console side. there is a huge bolt, like 24mm or something, and i cannot find anything else that is keeping the seat locked down.
What is the location of the VSS on this car? it's an automatic.
last, did Nissan offer OEM keyed lugnuts? The guy i bought the car from lost the key i guess.. it doesnt look so much like a keyed lugnut, then a lugnut that requires a weird tool as opposed to a key - it is a round nut with 6 slots evenly distanced every 60 degrees.

on my 88 SE, there were a total of 5 screws that had to be removed.
There are 4 star-head bolts (like a 6-point backwards torx) that secure the seat to the floor. I think I used an 8mm socket to pull these out. There are 2 in front of the seat, and 2 more in back. first, move the seat the whole way back, and remove these first 2 bolts. then move the seat the whole way up and remove the other 2 bolts that hold the seat rails to the floor. they're black, and may be difficult to find. but there are 4 to each seat. then that large bolt that you see (the one for the child restraint) must come out. Disconnect the connectors for the power seats, pull the seats out. it shouldn't be too hard. be aware though, that under the passengers seat is the ECU, the main computer for everything. be careful not to damage this in the process.
as for the locking lug nuts, no, I do not think nissan offered them as an option. however, I have seen nissan's aftermarket locking lugnuts at a nearby nissan dealer. they are also available at most auto parts stores. good luck finding a key. a friend of mine worked in a garage and they had a lug nut key set - but they were for factory lugnuts. that might be an option to you. the only other thing I can tell you is... you're SOL unless you wanna try to grind it off and install a new stud. or maybe drill it out, or turn it with a pair of vice grips? I dunno, those are just thoughts. maybe someone else here can help you on that. if somehow you can get the manufacturer's name and a serial number, there's a good possibility they can send you a replacement key. see if the guy who sold you the car remembers where he got the lugnuts, maybe the store can help you. again though, those are just quick thoughts.

and I'd get those lugnuts off there as soon as possible. murphy's law dictates that if you keep driving with them on there, you're due for a flat tire soon.

Im baffled as to how to take the wheels off, as the car doesnt move so i cant drive it to a shop, and i cant even get one stud off to bring it in and match it to a key. im thinking about grinding some sides on it and using a socket. its a long shot but i'll figure someting im sure...if i could only weld, i'd have those off a long time ago..
And for the seat... i cannot find the fourth star-shaped screw on the seats! The one im missing would be on the center console side, is it under that plastic trim piece? I cant get that off, so i havent been able to look under. i dont really want to break it off, but it seems to be a PITA to get off.

I know I had a difficult time trying to find that last screw. they're painted black to blend in. and I'm pretty sure it's not under that plastic cover because I think I tore mine off thinking it was. the FSM for my 88 shows this screw somewhere but it's not specific. if you like, I can scan the picture and see if you can decipher it.

You were right, that fourth screw it is about 3 inches into the seat rail. I had no problem moving the driver seat forward but the passenger seat had, believe it or not, about 20 bird feathers stuck in the rail between the seat and the rail. So that seat is absolutely frozen where it is on that side. grr looks like i have problem after the other.

I had a chevy s-10 blazer that was the definition of 'lemon'. first, it caught on fire. lucky for me I carry a fire extinguisher in my cars. after that, it all goes downhill. actually my maxima was one of my best cars when it came to not having problems, standing in second place to my 89 sentra, which never gave me anything more than a dead battery a few times when I left my foglights on.

actually I got a story for you... I had a problem with my drivers side power seat, which is why I removed it. when I took it all out, I noticed some sort of... I dunno, lingerie? something silk, some sort of female inimate clothing, wrapped up in the drive screw. it was so torn up and twisted that I couldn't even identify it. now, I'm not into wearing that kinda stuff, and I certainly hope none of my guy friends who've ever been in my car with me are... and I've had a few girls in my car on various occasions, like just friends or whatever that I worked with, hanging out at the rope swings or whatnot... but they weren't old enough to be wearing that sort of stuff, let alone be taking it off in MY car, LOL, so to this day I'm trying to figure out how it got in there. although I must give you credit. the bird feathers thing just baffles me.
