security system
Bump. Does anyone know which fuse controls the security system? I need help. This is my daughter's car and while she is at school, it may sit a week or so at a time. Something is draining the battery in that time and I suspect the security system. Thanks.
HEY
When my security system started going hay wire it was the ECU of the car.
It would sit for like an hour then the alarm would go off. I actually sat and watched to make sure nothing was making it go off.
Got a junkyard ECU and it hasn't happened since.

the only real way to disable the security system is to disconnect the control unit. there's really no fuse or relay for it. here's how it's done....
pop the trunk. climb in and lay down on your back, and look up at the panel where the rear speakers are. there will be two control units. one will be for the security system (and keyless entry, if you have it), and the other will be for the adjustable shock absorber/sonar suspension system. they should say on them what they're for. find out which one is for the security system, and disconnect the wiring harness.
on my 88 se, the unlock sensor in the key cylinder of the drivers side door handle went bad. this sensor was supposed to automatically unlock all 4 doors and kill the alarm system automatically when you unlocked the door with the key. but with the sensor bad, when I turned the key to unlock the doors, the power locks didn't unlock the doors, and the security system didn't deactivate. the mechanical action of turning the key unlocked the door, but as soon as you opened it, the alarm would go off. so it was either... unlock the doors from the passengers side, then walk around and get in, open the trunk with the key, close it, then quickly unlock the drivers side door and get in, or... disable the security system altogether.
no more security system.
hope this helps.

try this, roll down your drivers window. Lock the door with the key. Give the car about 30-40 seconds. Pull the lock up with your hand and open the door.
To turn it off, put the key back in, and relock, and unlock the door. I set mine off all the time just not thinking about it when doing that.

oh really....thats funny, I never knew that...I will have to try that on my lunch break.....what does it do? Blow the horn and blink the lights? Does it kill the starter?

yes, there's also a starter kill. you know the security system is set when the little orange light that says "SECU-RITY" lights up steadily after you lock all doors and shut them. this light is right next to the trunk release.
ok I tried this lastnight. I rolled my window down and locked the car with the key....waited a few minutes and pulled the lock up and got in. NOTHING!!! I had to hook the plugs back up to the driver side control box (in the trunk) I hooked the two plugs (white) that go in the right side of the box, and the black one on the left side of the box was already hooked up....there was one more white plug on that side of the trunk that was not hooked up and I have no clue where it goes....its white in color and when un hooked it hangs right around the trunk hinge. When I turn my motor off the Security light starts blinking...and when I lock my doors it continues blinking. I continues to blink until I start the car again....so what gives? Whats not working? Does it have to do with that other plug? And I do have my adjustable suspension unhooked if that makes any difference. Any ideas?

If it continues to blink, I believe that means one of the pin switches isn't working right, so the alarm thinks a door is open, and therefore, not arming...this is likely the reaosn the prior owner disconnected it...
so am I pretty much screwed, as far as getting it to work with out spending any $?....Its not worth it to me to spend any money to get it working...I just thought that it would be a cool little feature to have.
I just thought it would be neat, thats all. I am not going to spend money on getting it fixed...I already spend way too much money on my fourth gen, and I have already spent more money on my second gen than I would have liked to but oh well. Does anyone know what that other white plug is that I have hanging down around the the left (driver side) trunk hinge? Maybe it goes to the trunk lid or something, and possibly the security system thinks the trunk is open if its unplugged...dont know.
there are only 6 points the security system watches. all 4 doors, the trunk, and the hood. if the door-open light stays off while you're driving, then it's most likely a bad switch in the hood or the trunk. under the hood, I think this switch is on the passengers side, at the very front.

A sad thing I figured out: If you disconnect the panel button that flashes "security" (to the left of the steering wheel) you no longer have "security". Maybe maybe my car is just special, as each of our 1st & 2nd gen's are, but without my dash button plugged in my alarm doesn't work! It sounds crazy, but I've tested it!
Then again, my car will randomly say "left door is open" out of nowhere. So maybe it does have a mind of its own...

Can anybody tell me how to reset the code for your security system? I purchased a used car last week and want to reset passcode? I have a RED key and dealer #?? Thanks for any and all help.

my security systems funky in the way you can lock it from the inside get out close the door, wait a minute and since you closed the door with out holding the handle the driver side lock pops up enought o be unlocked and you open it up and it goes off...
i'm curious now, for the keyless enttry does all it need if the controller box in the back and the remotes or does it need a bunch of other stuff too

Code for the keyless entry should be in the trunk on the control unit that is under the parcel shelf. I forget the whole procedure on how to reset it because....well I don't have keyless entry.

Thanks for your reply. Anyone else have any ideas? I think the dealer code was changed when the first owner got it new!! Well thanks again for all your help..
Tony
That code will work
Hit the "ST" button first.
Then enter the code on the control box.
the car will beep for about ten seconds.
While its beeping enter the new 4 digit code.
Whenever your entering the code hit the "ST" button first.
It works I didn't know how to set mine for two years. But now I do it every time I unhook the battery.
