random questions.....

about my car.

(1) is there another forum I can subscribe to for Sentra owners, so that I don't have to post my irrelevant questions on a Maxima forum?

(2) my car has 124,000 miles on it. I've heard it's a good idea to replace the oxygen sensor every so often. I've heard every 30,000 miles. I don't know how old mine is, or if it's even been replaced. right now, it's not throwing the check engine light on. should I replace it soon, or wait until it becomes a problem? so far, the only tune-up work I've done is 4 new NGK copper spark plugs. the cap, wires, and rotor look brand new. I also cleaned out the throttle body and air intake lines. it idles and runs smoothly, like new.

(3) my headliner is falling down. when I got some spray adhesive to try to glue it back up, the adhesive ate away at the foam backing, and warped the cloth, and now it looks worse than it did before. where's a good place I can get a new headliner with the foam underpadding? I don't know if I should take my chances at a salvage yard (if I can find a nissan in one), and I don't want to bend over and take it from a dealer.

(4) I thought it'd be cool to change the color of my instrument cluster lighting. it's white. I've heard of fellow maxima owners changing theirs from green to blue and I'm kinda interested in doing that to mine. I tore apart the instrument cluster and tried replacing the backlighting bulbs with blue ones, but it actually turned it from a bright white to a "darker" white. I kinda like the blue style that the newer Volkswagens have, a "pure" blue. it looks like there's some white filter behind the lit-up parts of my gauges. is there a company that makes an aftermarket filter kit or something? I know it can be done, cos I think a few people here did it before.

(1) Not sure, you could try B12.net B13.net or something like that...not sure if they will work. I'm sure there is a forum out there somewhere.

(2) I'm not so sure that you have to change it every 30k, but you should clean the O2 sensor every 30k.

(3) Salvage yard is your best bet if you want to keep it cheap.

(4) Not sure if you can find custom filters. You could get indiglo or reverse idiglo overlay's probably. Also you might have to experiement with different bulbs because certain ones don't quite turn out the way that they probably should. Sounds like the blue bulbs you got are super white bulbs.

so how does one go about cleaning the oxygen sensor? I'm thinking about just replacing it altogether.

cool. I have some carb cleaner left over from my blazer.

got some throttle body and air intake cleaner. cleaned out the throttle body and plate and that made a world of difference. mechanically, the car runs like a charm.

I ended up taking the headliner down altogether, foam backing and all. so now my ceiling is just sheet metal. doesn't look too bad. now, to no success, I'm trying to find headlight and taillight blackout covers. I got a free set of fog lights from work that someone returned as "damaged", however there wasn't a thing wrong with em. and they work great and have a LED bulb in there. you can select the LED's color from a switch, or just use them as standard fog lights. however, the wiring harness is FAR too short to reach from the battery to the switch.
