Instrumentation from gas to Diesel

Don't know if this topic has been covered:} Does anyone know if the Complete instrumentation from a 1st generation gas engine maxima will fit and work in the 1st generation Diesel? If so, how easy/hard would it be to make the switch? Thanks everyone

Yeah it will work....there wasn't any major differences except the motor that I've been aware of. The Diesel motor might be a tad heavier, so they maybe some suspension work done to accomodate it....but don't quote me on that.

Everything should work,,,( ) except for the tach. you'll have to get creative, and come up with a way to send ignition signals to it from somewhere to make it work....

or just get your self an after market tach. i think it will still work just find the tach wier and ground it see if it moves. or just look for the wiering diagram of the disel max. and study it, so u can see if u can wier it another way.

Well, HERE is what I use on mine, you could just buy the sending unit kit and rig it up, the kit includes 2 magnets that attach to the harmonic balancer, and a pick up sensor, you may have to fab up a bracket for it, but it works, I've had mine since the mid '80s and still ticking.

Thank you for your responses. I don't know why Datsun/Nissan didn't offer full instrumentation for the diesel maxima. Were they not expecting it to sell well? Anyway, thanks again for your suggestions:}
