87 Max Exhaust Question

Quick question for you guys before I start ordering stuff. My whole exhaust system is rusty (dont go to MIDAS!). I have a universal muffler already and just need the middle part. Is it just the intermediate pipe and gaskets that I need? Nissanpartsstore.com sells the intermediate pipe for 82.68 and it would be great if that and the gasket is the only thing I need.

ahh jeez...I forget... two years ago I was racing this cavalier and my exhaust system fell off and I ended up replacing everything from the cat back. I had to get the center pipe (between cat and muffler) and a new muffler cos it was welded to the pipe. I forget how the exhaust systems are laid out on these cars, so I dunno if that piece with the flexible part is part of the manifold pipe. but I got my parts from napa for a pretty decent price. $82 seems awfully steep. they had the pipe in stock, and the gaskets, but they had to order the muffler. I think it was around $30 each? it wasn't too much. but it was a fairly simple repair.

Check out the underside of the car. I do believe that u can change the intermediate piece without changing the entire exhaust; but all you need to look at is the underside - see if there are welds b/w the uffler and cat; if there are then break the middle out (saw, screwdrier, and hammer make great weapons of destruction) and then weld the new one (plus gasket) on. Note: Make sure you are at the place where u can weld cause I don't know about VA (though I hear it's worse there) but MD is **** about the amount of noise a car can make and we always have pissed off cops at every corner waiting to pull us over.... course... on my street they do radar too....

I believe on our cars the pipe after the cat and the muffler are one piece. You may have a difficult time getting JUST the pipe. If you go to a shop (Monroe, etc.) get SS. Most SS systems have a lifetime warrenty.
