OK little trivia thing here

Floater cars do not have the voice box nor will they have adjustable suspension (atleast 80% of them dont because they are floaters, 20% because they didnt want the option)

Reason:

People in Panama or where ever they were going to DONT SPEAK ENGLISH, and the suspension is because the roads were to bumpt or the cold or hot screwed it up or something i cant rember, there was something else about the antenna too but i cant rember it.

i'm pretty sure mines a floater but i dont mind not having the adjustable suspension because it would just break on me any way.

I don't know about 87-88's but in mine the box lives under the center console. If you pull out the bin that's under the ashtray, you'll find it.

On my 83 it is just above my left foot. The box is about 4''x4''x4''. Inside it has a little white record. A relay drops the needle on the record. On mine the relay does not stay down.

i'm sure its possible if you have a little knowledge of electronics. i'm not sure how the thing is wired up stock but the way i would do it (provided it wasn't wired for me already) is run the wires up to the warning lights on the dash such as the low gas and parking brake and then go from there...

its worth a shot if you want to put in the time

It would rock if someone could record the voice in a high quality format so it would be "preserved" and anyone could fit it their car (maybe even new Max's) without needing the factory box. It might be easier to manipulate the words too.

I'm sure it's possible, but you'll be staring at wiring diagrams for hours. you'll have to find out how the wiring connects, and then wire everything in, then probably connect the output to one of your speakers....

I took the standard instrument panel out of my 86 s-10 blazer, which only had warning lights for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and the alternator, and completely bastardized it and installed an instrument panel from one that had gauges for all that stuff. it meant replacing sending units for the oil pressure and water temperature, cutting and splicing, tracing the wiring for each individual warning light (ever realize how many you have?) and moving wires around on a wiring harness. and then cos GM has to do everything bass-ackwards, there was a separate oil pressure circuit to shut down the fuel pump, and a separate temperature circuit for a "check gauges" warning light I had to wire in. check gauges replaces the oil pressure and coolant temperature warning lights.

moral of the story? any electrical mod is possible, but most are time consuming. my next one is to upgrade the instrument panel in my sentra to one that has a tachometer. this oughta be fun.

i checked out the voice box opened it and saw what was in it it was surprising i thought i would find a tape recprder or different chips that said different things but there isint there is a big chip and a lot of colored resistors there i wonder how i would feed the recording into the chip like someone said it will be a task, a task indeed!
