Does anyone have dyno results

Does anyone have dyno results of a modded out maxima years 85-88 with: TB, CAI, Exaust, and others would be interesting to know where we stand generally.

My 5-speed with the following: Cone Intake, 3rd gen 5-speed yields 135whp, 168wtq...which equates to about 159hp, and 198tq at the fly (15% power loss through drivetrain).

nismo87se 87 SE Auto with the following: CAI, Borla Exhaust, Bumped timing to 24*BTDC and I believe the TB: 123whp, 153wtq...which equates to about 153hp, 191tq at the fly (25% power loss through drivetrain).

Couple questions:

1. You actually gained all that torque from just an intake?!?!? Surely you jest!
2. Why did you use two different powertrain loss figures?
3. Weren't all SE's 5-speeds?

87-88 were available as an automatic, and an automatic will always take more power to turn than a manual. You're spinning a big hydraulic pump.

1. If you notice, the cone intake wasn't the only mod. This also include the 3rd gen 5-speed in my car. They have a slightly different final drive ratio. Hence why I make just an insane amount of torque (infact stock the 86 is rated the last time I checked at 152hp, and 167tq at the fly)....and the fact my car seemed to be a factory freak because it pulled much harder than a few 2nd gen's in the area.

2. Wylie is correct, you loose more power in an auto versus a 5-speed. Part of the reason why a 5-speed can be up to a second faster than an auto stock for stock. The auto has more weight to move inside the tranny than a 5-speed which just keeps it simple.

3. Wylie hit it on the head again....85-86 all SE's we're 5-speeds, but 87-88's we all autos, with an optional 5-speed.

BTW...to date....I have the highest dyno here. The only person I know for a fact that is higher is KALSC, though he hasn't dyno'ed....but just from his setup...it's real obvious. So for those who say they make more power because they have more mods, show me the dyno.

With that being said....I probably also have the worst dyno here. With all my mods I dyno'ed quite a bit less. But I attribute that to how screwed up my timing has been....that I've never corrected yet.

I am going to go to the dyno after I do the T/B mod....hopefully I can get on up there. What gear did you dyno in Sarin?

My runs we're in 3rd, but I believe you can do 4th as well as both are very close to 1:1.

Just wondering because I dyno my fourth gen in 3rd gear because I hit my speed limiter before the end of fourth . I will probably dyno in a month or so. My T/B should be in the mail and I have my other intake plenum sitting in the garage. I would also like to make several 1/4 mile passes in the near future (just for the H of it)

Interesting, you haven't done the mod to disable that? Sounds like something you should do.

The 87-88 SE came stock with the 5 speed but also had the option of a Auto.

Yea I was reading a review last night from motor trend or something of the "brand-new" '85. I didn't realize the auto was an option later on.

And while I'm thinking of it (sorry to go OT ) but they said that in the '85s that the "power-steering unit has a stiffer torsion bar for less assist and more feel." Was this true with the 87s and can it be swapped? What is that anyway?

I probably will when it gets a little warmer. My ecu is already hacked up enough in my opinion from the SAFCII.

You could also get a JWT ECU and be done with that!

My auto maxima dynoed 110whp/140wtq with only a K&N panel filter and timing advance. With a CAI it dynoed 123whp/153wtq, I never got to dyno it after the other mods.
