speedo gear

greetings fellow max owners. i have gone thru 3 speedo gears that attach on the top of the trans. each time i install one, the teeth get chewed up in about a weeks time. i am now running w/o the gear thus no speedometer. what could be causing this? old tranny fluid?
also, any ideas on how to pass smog in calif? i purchased the usual items, spark plugs, dist cap, rotor, pcv or is it pvc, air filter, oil & filter. any other helpful hints?
last question. any ideas where to purchase adjustable shocks for the rear? my right rear is going out quick.

thanks for any help you can give me

For the speedo gears, it could be the gear inside the tranny is bad. Only way to get at that sucker is to take the tranny apart. As for rear adjustables.....you'll find that if a place has it, it's probably up in the $1200-1500 range. Best to just convert to standard and use KYB GR2's.

They are very good. The handling is better than stock but still a comfortable ride.
