identifying "w" motors

ok first off i was wondering if there was an external way to identify if your engine was a "w" engine or not.

i know the deal with the W stamped on the pistons but.....if memory serves right the W motor was the revision half way through 1987.

seccondly there was a link, any one got it?

I believe you just have to look at the manufacturing date in the door sill. W motors start with April 87.
