Possible new mod for those interested...

On the MX6.com forums that I frequent for my new Mazda, there is a guy who has been making custom glow in the dark gauge faces.

If your interested, click on this link, and see if he can help you out...the link includes another link to a post showing what they look like lit up...

http://www.mx6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129657

Not trying to spam this out to anyone...just passing on the info, in case someone would like something a little different...he'll custom make them for 1G or 2G's, as long as he can find or make a template...

What so do they use the factory lighting, and that's it?

Well, with the car they originally built them for, the cluster is not back-lit like the Max's are...in the link that shows what they looked like, the guy used a super bright blue LED...the blue of course mutes the light output...He will custom make them in ANY color, etc., you wish...and if you replace the cluster bulbs with either higher output bulbs, or some super bright WHITE LED's, it should look fine...or fabricate an over-cluster lighting system, like the 626 / MX6 they were originally made for has...

This was just to see if anyone would be interested...for anyone who may have a spare cluster available, to send to him to work with, he may be able to make a bargain/deal with you, and help work out a lighting system...just gotta ask him...

Its really not that hard to make a custom guage yourself, just pic up a spare cluster from the junkyard and get the leds and wiring from a radio shack.

The LED's they are using in those pics are about 25 x's brighter than anything Radio Shak sells...

And the one's pictured, are also printed on a glow-in-the dark stock, which works well with good back lighting...

But it is true, that with some work, you could make your own...it would be up to you, as to how you wanted to go...

Thanks a bunch MaxWgn for starting this thread for me. I really just wanted to see if anyone was interested in some aftermarket white gauge faces. Yes the ones I have are printed on glow in the dark paper. It has been discussed why use glow in the dark paper if you're just gonna light it up anyways. The paper is pretty high quality and stiff. I'm sure you'll only see the effect at it's height at night with the dimmer all the way off or around twilight before you turn your lights on. I know that some cars have a demand for aftermarket parts but no one wants to make them. Well I'm offering you guys a chance to get some aftermarket. After I make a set of gauge faces, the'll always be for sale, unless I'm PCSing or deployed. And then you'll just have to wait untill I get back. Here are some more direct links.
Full installed pics for the 1gen (88-92) MX6/626/Tx5 and more info
Development for the S13 (89-94 240SX)
What I'd offer is a completely customizable white gauge face. If you wanted to change the redline, font, style, line color, add pictures, get rid of km/h or convert to metric, change your speedo from every 10 + 5 to just every 10 and or have marks past 125 MPH. Pretty much if you wanted to change anything and everything with the gauges, I can do it. So if you guys are interested, please, let me know.

Would you be able to offer a heater control insert if I provide you one that can do that? Also can you do something that glows blue?

Yes, I can do a heater control insert or anything else like that. The paper is only manufactured in green so far. I 've had a few requests for blue so I'm gonna email the conpany and see what they say. The may offer it, but at a large price difference.

That sounds intresting. Could you shoot me some links/info on that. My printer does have a straight feed I could put hard plastic through. It has a caddy type thing to print on CDs.

When he first asked about it, my scanner was out of commission. I emailed him to tell him to send it out to me and he hasn't responded. If you want to send it out to me drop me an email @ panther37@gmail.com. I'll mail it back to you with your finished product.

No worries, we all get busy. For an exact price I would need to know the insert's length and width. Also do you want it just glow in the dark or do you want indiglo?
Glow in the dark, $20 + shipping ($3.85)
Indiglo, depending upon dimensions, $30 to $40 + shipping ($7.70)
Indiglo includes an inverter and will be a kit. You will have to do some assembling, and soldering. You could be lazy and just plug it in to the cigarette lighter since it comes with that connection but then you'd have wires everywhere.
