the evil o2 SENSOR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ????????????

ive been looking for a long time for this sensor myne is very small, i dont know if anyone else has one like myne TAKE A LOOK!!!!!!!!!!

this is my actual pic

here is the only other pic ive seen

see how the threads are small compared to all the other ones (ive emailed them asking for it but you cant buy it from them idk WHY

here is what all parts stores gave me

I even went to the junk yard and all the 2ed gen max had the bigger one, I have no idea why myne is small, mechanics told me they never seen a small one like myne.

the dealership told me $100 for it , should i just go there, (knowing them they will give me the biggerone< when i took this one in and handed it to them)

no but your not the first to ask about it.
There were a few people who had the same problem you had when they got aftermarket O2's.

i got the second o2 sensor. i bought mine from the dealer for 100 too but he didnt assk for the vin number maybee you have an aftermarket or japaneese headder with that hole or maybee someone broke the thread and had to fill it to retap the thread...but neways the dealer wont lie to you about parts. and i get about 20-27 mpg somewhere around there, look at the car and see if i drive like a grand pa.....

when my O2 sensor went out i was getting 9 MPG no matter what, i think it was out for a while....as the the o2 mines an 87 and it took the bigger rounded one but i rember when i went to shucks (kreger/checker for some of you people) they asked me if it was the big or small threaded one...and it only cost me $20 to get the big rounded one so i would say its worth the work to try to save your self $80 by spending some extra time looking for it else where

hey all, I've been a member for a while but never really posted. I'll start posting a lot more soon. anyway, I have an 86 wagon, and just today I had my "sensor" light go on. I checked the service manual and it looked like the only reason that light would go on is because of a bad O2 sensor. Is this correct? I also don't really want to spend $100 just for an O2 sensor, so has anybody ever tried the slightly smaller aftermarket? thanks!

the sensor light will stay on after 90,000 miles, there is a plug behind the fuse box.

do you have the smaller o2 sensor??

i could not find the smaller one anywhere else but the dealership

if you have the big one, just got to advance its like $ 30-40

the only reason i spent 120 on myne is cuz the wires were cut off, so i know it wasent working right sence its not plugged up, if it wasent cut i woulten of gotten it

you say the sensor light will stay on after 90,000 miles... are you sure it isn't 60,000 miles as I rolled over that mark today, and I didn't notice the sensor light this morning when I was at 59,985. I thought it was maybe just a coincidence. I'm not sure if I have the bigger or smaller one as I haven't taken it out yet since it's so darn hot outside!

this is what i think , the dude cut the wires to the 02 to try to get the light off, but that didnt work, so he just let it sit for a year, cuz it woulten pass inspection.

then i came along NEEDING A/C, olds the compressor was shot and some other crap, also i HATED THE CAR, so i got the max not really thinking a lot, so ya i got kinda screwed, cuz its kinda a pos, but i have kept it running so far, so i try not to think about all the probs, but the list is getting shorter now

ps, the orig onwer had it till 200,000 miles, the the 2ed had it till 244,000 and now i got it

DO NOT CUT YOUR O2 WIRE TO GET THE SENSOR LIGHT OFF

on the A/C note....the compressors for our cars are huge considering the size of the acual car....

i've looked at other older cars with similar size engines and they are tiny. but with ours, if you fill it to the max it blows wicked cold

haha, yeah, I guess the 86's are rare, 86 wagons are more rare, and 86 wagons that have 60,125 miles on them are even more rare. I've had the car for a while, it's been my "daily beater". I am a true rotor-head at heart, but currently I have no RX-7's to play with. I will be graduating from college soon (Lehigh university) and hopefully will be able to get an RX-8. It was my grandmothers car, she never really drove it (obviously). It started out as my grandfathers company car (he owned the company) and then went to her and then to me. I got it wil 49,9XX miles on it I guess a year and a half ago. everything on it works fine, I had a stumbling problem but it turned out to be a bad spark plug wire. A/C is cold enough to freeze my fingers. one switch has broken off (hatch release) but I'll fix that eventually. no mods have been done to the car (yet) except for an upgraded stereo, soon to have a 15" sub. heh, I'm trying to make my maxima the "most ghetto car on campus". Right now I'm running two infinity kappa 10.1 tweeters, stock fronts, stock rears, two sony xplode 6 x 9's, and two sony xplode 10" subs powered by a rockford punch 550s amp. There are a lot of rich boys at Lehigh driving around their audi's, bmw's, one kid even has a hummer (not a h2 plumber, the real army h1). He also has a 02 'vette. Some of us aren't quite so lucky. But I still love "Champion" as I have named her. Once I'm finished cleaning her up a bit (making a new box for my sub and speakers, and put on the under car neons... haha...) then I'll get some pix for sure. it's silver, original paint, just a bit of rust in the wheel wells. I will also be installing a 5 inch lcd screen to attatch to a gamecube/xbox/dvd player or whatever. That's all for now, I'm sure u all will hear from me again soon.

~Andrew

p.s. it's "mine" not "myne" (not that i'm a spelling expert, I just wanted to point that out)

::edit:: in order to fully appreciate all I have said, you will have to work on it... either do it by hand (will take forever), write a program to convert it to text since the ones on the internet will most likley not work due to the spacing used to encode it to html, or cut and paste into notepad, and remove all "whitespace".

I appologize for my previous post not having anything to do with maximas. This was a problem that plagued the technical areas of the rx-7 club forum that I was/am a faithful member of. If a mod wants to remove that one, or this one, please feel free. I was just showing off my nerdyness to let you all know right away that there probably is not a bigger nerd on this forum (and wasn't it a funny joke?! I love that one) I would translate it for those who don't speak binary... but you all wouldn't get it so it doesn't much matter
