Fuel pump ordeal, need help.

Hi guys,

I started having problems with my fuel pump. Long story short, because I need to go to work, when the temperature drops the fuel pump will stop working. However, if I pour a bottle of HEET inside the fuel tank, and try to crank the engine, it starts and I can hear the pump engaging.(condensation around fuel pump?) It's driving me insane, I get the best fuel out there (87) with no water in the fuel, and even if there was, I always put a bottle of techron every fill up.

So I need to by a new fuel pump. This can't go on, it's going to get extremely cold here Texas and my Maxima is not prepared. I checked with the dealers, and the fuel pump for my car is $400!

I can't afford to dish out $400 at the moment, I checked at partsamillion.com and they have the bosch "fuel pump only" for $136.70. Does the pump come with something else? I also found this site:

http://www.fuel-pumps.net/fuel-pumps...-0l--sohc.html

The walbro fuel pumps. Sarin was talking about them once.

So, my main question is, will a fuel pump for a 1989 maxima work for an 87?

Also, I know there are a few members that have had fuel pump problems before, where did you purchase your new pumps and would you all please drop me some links for me to look at after I come back from work?

Thanks guys, let me what you all think.

Pull your back seat and check the wiring at the pump. Cold shrinks metal. Maybe a bad connection. Also check the relay.

I thought about doing this, but the need to pull back the seat was what put it off since I won't be putting anything new in. Nevertheless, I will check. Where's the fuel pump relay? Also, this was happening before the additives, which claim they are safe when you pour them at every fill up. However, I'll stop for the time being, I want FP60 and that's what I'll be ordering.

I still believe I need a new pump, I can't risk getting stranded, doesn't any have any links or suggestions regarding fuel pumps?

Im not sure if they will work with an 87. Ther eis always trial and error to see if it will. I would also like to see because walbro only makes fuel pumps for the 3rd gens and up. And if it does work then I will be ordering a walbro. I havent had much time to do that though, plus there is nothing wrong with my fuel pump...yet anyway.

You can give this web-site a try for used fuel pumps:

www.car-part.com

They had some fuel pumps listed between $40 and $90 in the Texas area.
