steering rack rattle
rack bushes
when i said bush's my old's lady has a volvo and in the rack on each end is a nylon bush that has the rack shaft slide though it and from being pounded on the foot path side or the pot hole side the bush had become larger than the shaft and it started rattleing when drive in a straight line all i had to do on the volvo was to jam a small screw driver in between the shaft and bush and then turn the steering to push the bush out and then just tap the new one in just wondering if its the same sort of deal
this is on a 1988 max

There's a boot, but I don't think there is a bushing. Then again I haven't seen the rack very close up to tell you exactly. Have you check your wheels for play, does the steering feel sloppy at all? My thoughts are the tie rod ends might be what is giving you grief.
