MAF problem??

My 1986 maxima has rough idle and hesitation when I press the accelerator. I changed spark plugs, cap & rotor, and spark plug wires. The idle gets so low sometimes that the car turns off while stopped. I am thinking it is the MAF, but I am not sure. I need help in further diagnosing the problem. And instead of flaming me for not searching(poor college student), can someone post links to other threads that might help me . thanks

Pull codes. Right now, it could be something from a vacuum leak, to a bad sensor. That might get you pointed in the right direction.

My guess is its your tps or vacuum leak. Will your car rev past 2-3K>

yeah, it will hesitate up to about 2-2.5K revs and then just accelerate smoothly all the way to reline if I don't let off the gas pedal

If your MAF unit is shot, you'll undoubtedly have a 3K rev limit. If you press the go pedal too hard it will stumble and cut off
Along with cardana24, check for a vacuum leak at your EGR valve

Nope, on all 2nd gens, rev's are limited to 2k rpm if the MAF goes bad.

but the MAF can go bad in other ways to give false readings and this still thinking its connected there for no limit. thats how mine went both times.

i'm getting the same thing but only when its cold or damp, the ramaned MAF i got had a funky looking seal on the box and i am pretty sure moisture is gettin in there and messin with it but its got another few months on the warranty.

just a hint, do not get Cardone re-man parts. their MAFs are adjustable though
