T-Belt Tension Adjustment in '87 Factory Service Manual Revised?

I need to know the best method to tension the t-belt on my 87. My 87 FSM says to loosen the rockers and remove the spark plugs to adjust the t-belt tension. Then tensioner pulley is to be alternately rotated clockwise and counter-clockwise and then set in postion by turning clockwise to set the tension. The diagram then showns, but does not state, to tighten the tensioner to the 5:30 position. Then tighten the rockers and install the plugs. But this method is different for all the later VG30 t-belt tension instructions I have read about. Either they say 1) to tighten the belt with a .014" feeler gauge between the belt, with the pulley in about the 5:30 postion or 2) tighten the belt to deflect about 1/2" with 20 lbs, which should also be about 5:30 position. Which is correct? Also, anyone use an aftermarket tensioner? Dayco is the brand all the parts stores carry.

TIA

Well, after some research I've found an answer to my own question on the belt tension. There was a Nissan tsb to use method 2) above with the feeler gauge. However, many techs don't use the feeler gauge and just make sure the belt deflects about a 1/2" and the tensioner should be in the 5:30 position
